Give them a call or tweet them. I did this and while I don't know if it helped at all it made me feel a little bit more at ease.

The biggest issue I had was that I missed the actual flight I wanted!!

Posted at 5:30am this morning. So all up was about 40 hours. Luckily managed to get the flight we wanted at peak Christmas time.

Hey all,

This promo looks interesting but I've got a basic UA question. From everything I've read UA allows a stopover and "doesn't care" where/how you route your flight, so does that mean if I were flying MEL to S.E. Asia (to let's say HAN) I could pick a stopover anywhere in SE Asia? Or do you plug the one way into the engine and get the available connections to determine which one could be your stopover? I'm just playing around at the moment, as we're looking at a possible trip to Vietnam but the only stopovers are BKK, HKG and AKL. Would it be possible to do coughet?

Thanks, sorry if a bit off topic but I don't want to buy these points without fully understanding.

Cheers

Get in there quick...much more restrictive routing / stopover rules are coming!

yikes! Thanks for the heads-up! I'm seriously looking at this, does anyone know whether J to Vietnam would be possible with SQ and if so, is the only way to call? Looking at MEL-HAN With a stopover somewhere interesting the way back (Hong Kong? coughet?)...but I'd prefer SQ if possible

cheers

I got an email this morning for a 75% bonus which isn't too bad.

I'm trying to route SYD-BKK-HKG(F)-PEK(J) on TG/CA

The search will happily bring up a series of SYD-BKK(F)-xx_(J)-PEK(J) but won't do what I'm after. If I try multi-city, it prices as 2 awards (SYD-HKG plus HKG-PEK).

Is there anyway to make my plan work?

I'm not an expert but that looks correct - you're travelling Oceania - South Asia (with or without a stopover in BKK) and then from South Asia - North Asia...Hong Kong is in South Asia, whereas China is North Asia according to their zones.

I'm not seeing the routing via HKG, but there are plenty of options SYD-BKK-KIX/TYO-PEK, with TG F all the way from SYD to Japan and then ANA or CA business class to PEK. HKG doesn't seem to factor in.

Oceania -> Nth Asia is allows transit in SE Asia for no additional charge (40K J or 50K F). The example above shows a valid routing via BKK and Japan.

FWIW I didn't seem to get the email but logged in to check because of this thread.

Buy 5,000 - 14,000 miles | Get 25% bonus
Buy 15,000 - 29,000 miles | Get 50% bonus
Buy 30,000 - 85,000 miles | Get 75% bonus

I only purchased miles in June on this account.

The 75% max bonus seriously affects the value.

Well I don't see it, but I'm not an expert :) I did read the following that suggested that this is expected behaviour:

Cheers and good luck

Thankfully AU-Asia seems to be doing ok ATM and doesn't seem to have suffered too much. Plenty of availability and they system is throwing up some fairly complex (and interesting) routings. Some the other day I was searching from China to Australia were in excess of 40 hours - allowing 12 or more + hours stops in Tokyo and Bangkok

Before the october deval you could use multi city to do complex routings priced as single award. The 'enhancement ' has removed all of that.

How were you getting it to bring up

SYD-BKK-KIX(F)-PEK(J)?

I've tried and just can't make it happen

EDIT - Disregard, found one. Forgot that Japan flights only release one seat at a time. Annoying that it doesn't route through HKG. I need 2 seats and I guess I'd need to play the TG release gamble and book one at a time.

Up to 100% bonus miles is back.

My offer is 15% bonus up to 25% for 120,000 miles. What a demoralising offer. Get people's hopes up and knock them to the ground. Or should I be grateful for 25% bonus?

25% for me - Bought 40,000(+40,000) approx 3 months ago.

Thats a no from me!
