Also SYD-BKK-HKG in F for ~$AU1,000 looks not bad.

factor in being able to get a free stop over on a return trip and UA can offer very good value

LM beats them in the one way race since you can generally book 2 or 3 weeks further in advance, though with the slow down in the screen shot method LM has lost some of this advantage

roughly 4.5K AUD to do europe return in J with a free stopover is awesome value, and i love the flexibility of being able to fly multiple airlines to get the trip I want. it's a shame the alliances don't allow this kind of felxibility for revenue tickets

Well thats interesting.

I got the purchase receipt but it says at the start of the email they will email once the purchase is complete.

Also tried the logout/login and no dice on that one. First time I've experienced such an issue.

Ended up posting approx 32hrs after purchase. CAN-BKK-MEL booked for tonight.

Hey all,

This promo looks interesting but I've got a basic UA question. From everything I've read UA allows a stopover and "doesn't care" where/how you route your flight, so does that mean if I were flying MEL to S.E. Asia (to let's say HAN) I could pick a stopover anywhere in SE Asia? Or do you plug the one way into the engine and get the available connections to determine which one could be your stopover? I'm just playing around at the moment, as we're looking at a possible trip to Vietnam but the only stopovers are BKK, HKG and AKL. Would it be possible to do coughet?

Thanks, sorry if a bit off topic but I don't want to buy these points without fully understanding.

Cheers

Choose the multi stop option and plug in the routes you want with the stopover,a random search I just did to Vietnam with a stopover in coughet priced out fine(60,000 miles rtn in business)

Thanks, I got it to work, I don't know what I was doing wrong? Some of the blogs talk about "most powerful zones" determining point requirements, but they're written from a North American perspective. Does anyone know how they work here in Australia?

Cheers

Annoying that it takes so long for the miles to post. Waiting about 6 hours now. They have note that says it can take up to 48 hours, seems ridiculous for a pure online transaction.

Hi, How do you get a free stopover ? Is it part of the Mileageplus scheme ?

I am going to Barcelona next year, and would like to stop in London on the way through.

Just book using the multicity tool. MEL-LHR, LHR-BCN, BCN-MEL. Not sure what start alliance carrier flies LHR-BCN.

Still waiting for miles to post...at about 30 hours now. Soooo annoying.

Give them a call or tweet them. I did this and while I don't know if it helped at all it made me feel a little bit more at ease.

The biggest issue I had was that I missed the actual flight I wanted!!

Yes it's their policy to give a free stopover and open jaw on roundtrips. Like travelislife said, you can use multi-city tool. You mentioned a stopover in Japan in another thread so ANA/Asiana/Air China be an option and buy a cheap flight within Europe instead. Life is much easier when your wife is cool with business class. Wish my partner wasn't too obsessed with F. I love Japan and go there every year, 2 times this year :D

On a reward flight, is there a stop over tax cost penalty for the UK?

Sure is! Premium passenger tax still applies. Any flight except transit I believe. Basically, its better to stopover in the UK on the way to your EU destination so you pay a cheaper fee for a shorter flight when leaving the UK.

Ok thanks. It applies to all UK airports?
