Bonza Airline Discussion

The Bonza CEO/Founder spoke to CAPA recently, full 30 min interview here:

but here are the things I found interesting, I'd take some things with a grain of salt but still it's interesting to hear:
  • 186 seats [by my estimation that'd be 32 rows of seats putting it at about 29" of seat pitch]
  • They're looking to try and achieve a 12 hour utilisation time
  • They suggest they'd be operating markets 2,3,4 times per week
  • If they can get approval/slots then some flights will be to/from SYD/MEL/BNE (but not really between them)
  • More than half the routes they've identified are currently not serviced by any other carrier and where there is overlap there are generally only small business carriers already existing (I guess watch out Rex SAAB routes, fly corporate and FlyPelican)
  • Ideally they'd like flights to be 1-2 hours long
  • Apparently 45 of the 46 airports Bonza has contacted have said they'd be interested in service
  • None of their aircraft are in a paint shop yet
  • Claim to be in discussions with the NSW and QLD govs about the head office location
  • Indicates the AOC process will be quicker because of the brand new aircraft
Don't worry :) Without the proper permits and planes, there will be no flights. Now they just do interviews to announce themselves to people.

Another interview with Bonza CEO:
At this rate we should keep an interview to flights operated counter.

It'd have to be at least 10 to 0. I love the idea but am sceptical until I see some routes announced and at least one aircraft in bonza colours.

Although HBA-BME doesn’t exactly fit the 2hr criteria ..

This was featured as a suggestion from someone who completed the survey, not an actual route they plan to operate.

The fuel burn on a long route like HBA-BME would make it very difficult for an ultra-low cost carrier to operate it profitably while offering super low fares.

Hahahahaha yea I'm sure Bonza has WA as top of its list to fly given their incredibly unreliable and unfounded border closures!!

But good try ;)

WA airports try to woo budget disrupter Bonza Airlines

I'll be the first to admit I really have no idea about the commercial side of it, but there must be an untapped intra-WA market. Surely some competition on some of the Rex routes could be in order. In particular Perth to Esperance and Albany spring to mind.

Qantas agree with you, they just bought 6 more A320’s for QFLink to be based in PER (per other new thread)

A lot of those are used for mining charters rather than point to point budget flights.

They're flying them to Esperance and Albany?

Who knows…. (Won’t discuss further as off topic but there is another thread on the expansion in WA) here:

I visited their Facebook thanks to your post, and gee, it is so cringy, I want to throw up, let alone fly with them. 🤮
Their Instagram story currently has a “sneak peek” into their “Bonza Budgies” they’ll be selling onboard. Interesting…to say the very least
