We have all been in that scenario, and I for one left thinking, "why hadn't I done this sooner", you will be most welcome.

What he said. Absolutely. We all had that first awkward meeting. We will most likely be in the back corner of the "quiet area"

Can I crash a party when I don't know anyone? Perhaps first chance to meet some other AFFers in a group setting: I'll be getting to the lounge from ~18:30... do I just look for the loud, rowdy bunch?

Don't know anyone???? I'm hurt ;). Sydney lounge 28 July, you, DJ 1D and I partook in some complimentary Moet for albeit a very brief catch-up!!

Do you perhaps mean monopolising the back corner of the "quiet area"?

Ah, sorry swanning_it I didn't realize you were on the attendance list. Yes, I remember our fleeting greeting in SYD. I'm sure I'll see you there then.

I'll be there for drinks, but cannot stay for dinner.
Virgin lounge right? Will need someone to guest me in.

Yep, Virgin lounge. Don't fret about the guesting issue.... I think amongst the attendees, we will have something like a 40 guest allowance. LOL.

Just ask storyteller about her 'entrance' in the SYD QF F lounge.
attention grabbing and funny or embarrassing depending upon your perspective

Skimmed through the past few days & totally missed this reference to my undoing. Most polite AFF members serenely bypass all mention of this when talking to me.. Actually, I think it's more that I offended everyone present by a) getting the 1st or 2nd boarding pass by being in the J queue & trying discretely to fit handles to faces in the Y queue; b) being offered my " usual" table in the Lounge when I arrived; c) pacing past the AFF gathering a few times before deciding I would join them; & d) the glass of Grange; e) being fed strawberries as I left the lounge...

Have we decided on a venue for dinner? I noticed that the Beach Club / Surf House, or something like that, at Southbank gives points for visiting. Went there with Straitman & his +1, Anat01, & Lindsay Wilson & his +3 for dinner recently. Food was great, Prices fine & service & attention to our needs just what we wanted. Train goes there, parking is easy.

Not so loud we couldn't talk, & it was a Friday night. Maybe I've skimmed too fast & a venue has already been decided?? & I've offended everyone again.

No decision has been made yet. I guess we should decide sooner rather than later ...

Hi All,
Stumbled across this site today and decided to join.

Are wives / partners allowed to attend social events?

Do you have to have a certain level of FF to attend?

Regards,
Deno

Wives/partners etc are ok to bring along. There is no discrimination there.

No particular ff status required. In some meet ups (eg ones in first lounges) we have to ensure there are enough guesting spots, but this isn't an issue here.

Hi Deno,

Welcome to AFF :D

If you had actually met some of these people you would understand that there are no prerequisites of any sort at the get togethers :!:

Oi Mal, what was the name of that Mexican joint in the Valley - Truckeria? Is it close to the railway station or car park?

Would that be suitable for a birthday dinner?

Tuckeria. On the new farm valley border. More of a takeaway than a proper diner tho so not really suitable. 10 mins walk from valley train, decent parking. Second mex choice would be Guzman y Gomez in Enporium. About the same distance from train, good seating but again more an order, collect, eat, leave type of place.

Dare I suggest, that since the amount of travel AFFers are doing on VA is increasing, this night might be an appropriate time to officially decide the abbreviated status tiers for VA? (Like WP, SG, PS, NB over at Qantas?)

Only in BNE! :p

This place sounds nice. Even if we don't make it there for The Birthday, will have to remember it for another time.
The reviews for DM aren't positive, there are so many good places in South Brisbane and West End, I would skip it.
