Brisbane Lounge Changes

Who said anything about a private meal? And what does chartering a plane have to do with an airport lounge.
We both know that the food even on a good day will NEVER be the best you have ever tasted.
And who ever said anything about a 3 hatted private eatery. ?
Having tasted the salsa there , you need to get out more if that's the best you've ever tasted.
The empanadas on Saturday were rubbery, dry and bland. That's not an opinion, that's an observation.

The empanadas on Friday were excellent! And the tomato salsa is one of the best I've tasted.

It's a lounge, not El Pablo's 3 chef hatted private eatery.

Some of the people in the lounge need to realise they are not the centre of the QP catering universe! The "beef rendang" in Sydney today wasn't particularly appetising and was no less "faux" than Mexican in BNE - but that's life! If you want a private meal, charter your own flight!

This discussion is not about private meals or chartered flights, so perhaps you have replied to the wrong thread? Nobody here is expecting restaurant dining with tuxedo clad waiters, it's more about how the caterers under the auspices of QF can use the available budget to provide a distinctive offering in the J lounge.

3 hats, or even 1 or 2 hats does not make a restaurant worthy of a visit. There is only one standard and that is Michelin Stars. I don't know who made up hats or where they came from but they can crawl back from whence they came.

I didn't realise I was in the company of such bastions of authentic Mexican cuisine. If only I was so cultured to have experienced "real" empanadas and salsas.

Please...all I'm saying is that one's opinion that food is not to their taste does not = bad food.

I didn't mind the empanadas when I was there... but despite the impressive fit out I think they could have provided something more substantial than they had on offer. Walking into the QP before my flight I saw they had inherited the curry and rice that the J lounge previously received as a distinction above the QP. Had I known it was in the QP I may have stayed in there.

Whilst I did visit the new JLounge on Friday AM (to see Steady on his way through), I didn't take the opportunity to check out inside as my son had no shoes. The Chairmans Lounge back wall still hasn't been finished and then I presume the new entrance to the JLounge will be done (like MEL JLounge).

I agree that the F&B will never suit everybody all the time, but a change is good and it will take time for some to get used to the new arrangements. YMMV.

I'm not saying it (Mexican food) isn't to my taste, I like Mexican food, in fact some of the most memorable meals in my travels have been in Mexico, from beach side restaurants to road side stalls selling local delicacies (of indeterminate origin ) .
What I am saying is "THIS" Mexican food is a fail on quality, taste and execution. that isn't an opinion, that's an observation.

Seems to me that durbrain and JohnK either have wildly different tastes (possible :) ) or they had different batches, or perhaps John sampled later when things had dried out (or whatever).

I suppose these things are so subjective it's not funny. I also don't feel anyone here considers themselves to be the "centre of the catering universe"(or whatever).. a change is good whatever it is. Frequent travellers appreciate that specially road warriors and it's good that at least within the theme they are providing a rotating menu of options (does PER change the toppings on their pizzas? I have no idea.. hopefully!).

I was just reading a review of the AC lounge at LAX where some pax were noted to be oohing and aahing at the selection of food (some soup and cheese/cold cuts/salad - much like your standard QC spread) .. to that lot I'm sure the J lounge F&B would be amazing.

We can't all have the FLounge or CL all the time now can we?

And to those that hate Mexican food.. well you could always build a wall and not get over it.... ? (what, too soon? :) )

My apologies. I did not realise that travel to Mexico (such a rarely visited locale!) bestowed such authority on Mexican food. Clearly none of the platinum members of a *frequent flyer* lounge who enjoyed the Mexican catering have ever been to Mexico! Thank you for enlightening the uncultured masses with your astute 'observation'.

I have little issue with any cuisine really as long as it's cooked well with fresh ingredients. Although surely Mexican food should be served in MEL J and BNE J should have Canadian food? (NSW centric joke there to lighten up the thread again).

Do you consider expecting a QF lounge in Australia (or anywhere) to live up to "mexican food in mexico" standard? If not, what "standard" should it live up to? Give us a well known equivalent.

I've also had the best mexican food in my life in mexico, but have yet to have the same standard elsewhere in the world.

I cant comment on the QF level of mexican, i havent been to the BNE lounge. But i would imagine it would be reasonable to expect it to be similar to any mass-produced mexican food.

The pizzas they used to serve in SYD sure weren't as good as the pizza i've had in Italy (or NYC for that matter). But then, that isn't my expectation. They were probably about as good as dominoes.....

My reference to my Mexican food experience in Mexico was a response to the allegation that I "don't like Mexican food" this is a patent untruth.

I would beg to differ on the comparison in quality to "other mass produced" Mexican food. this is well below par IMHO

I guess that was what i was asking (haven't tried the new BNE lounge).

If they cant "compete" on quality with Taco Bill, Montezuma, Guzman y Gomez, Zambero etc, they'd have been better going with another theme.

*meekly* Can we all agree that the space is nicer than the old J lounge?

Everything inside is nicer than the old J lounge.
Some people must had insane expectations otherwise I honestly don't get how can anyone complain about this amazing Dom lounge.

I got to visit ADL, MEL & SYD lounges in the last 7 days and was thinking how lucky we are in BNE to have the best Dom lounge (at least until MEL is done).

I'm not a huge Mexican food fan. I don't cook it at home nor do I go to Mexican restaurants but hey, it is much better than the slop that was previously served.

Wife didn't like them either.

I don't like Mexican food and have never gone out of my way to try Mexican. Chilli beans, spicy salsa, tacos, nachos etc is not my idea of a meal.

And yes I said it earlier but someone standing behind a glass buffet handing over a tiny plate of 2 tasteless empanadas is not my idea of a premium lounge. When I went to get pram with daughter from Qantas service desk went to Qantas lounge and brought back 8 spring rolls. They weren't great but they were edible and I was hungry and I could serve myself.

Continue with the Mexican theme but please provide an alternative. Party pies would be acceptable. Even the curry dish they had in the Qantas lounge would have been acceptable. The chicken wings they had in Qantas lounge 3-4 weeks ago were nice.
