Brisbane Lounge Changes

I expect the new LHR T3 lounge will be called the 'Qantas London Premium Lounge' or similar – I've heard it referred to as such in a lower-case 'premium lounge' sense, and while the press release announcing the lounge gave it no formal name the captions under supplied concept art read "Introducing Qantas’ new premium lounge at London Heathrow".

Not that staff would have any more knowledge than anyone else, but I was told in BNE this morning that the international development would finally utilise the upstairs space. However I don't see that mentioned anywhere so I'm not sure it's accurate.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to getting to try it out in December, that should be far enough away to account for any overruns.

As for domestic, lots of work around the former valet area bother underneath and extending beyond the end of the terminal. I was told they were aiming for a concept similar to what Virgin has (who knows whether that means direct lounge access) but they their full briefing was tomorrow. Good job I'm flying through again tomorrow!

Does anyone know when the BNE Dom J lounge will be refurbished (or if it already has been)? I'm there for a BNE-DRW flight in J at the beginning of September and wondering what the lounge situation will be?

Lots of noise and vibrations going on in the BNE QFd side of things, I was there on the 13 Jun, while visibly no closing off of areas as yet, I wouldn't put it past them to start partitioning off parts soon.
The vibrating seems to be coming from one level under the lounges. Probably where the baggage trolleys go to and from QFlink.
They are going the lounges in the BNE QFd area open, and operating as "normal" so they would have to partition parts off to do works.

That would be the current renovations to QF Valet Parking Pooch.

Lounge closed today. Redirected to service desk between gates 79 and 80 where told to show boarding pass at plaza premium lounge. Entrance to the pp lounge was a bit of a zoo and it is a very small lounge. Staff were really good though and decent coffee.

Just to clarify: given the Gate numbers (79-80) I'm guessing this is the International J Lounge that's closed and not the Domestic J Lounge?

Regards,

BD

Yep international. Sorry for any confusion. I thought that was the topic

Yep it's the International First and Business Lounges that will be closed from today.

Next year.

According to Qantas:

Works on all of the new lounge facilities will begin before the end of the year with a staged completion throughout 2016 and early 2017.

Except that a Qantas press release issued on June 8th regarding the international lounge advises:

The beginning of construction signals the start of a comprehensive redevelopment of the Brisbane Lounge experience, with the domestic terminal lounges also set for a complete redesign in coming months. Qantas will build a new lounge precinct with a new Business Lounge and refreshed Qantas Club, including a new Valet experience, with a staggered opening planned from early 2017.

So there appears to have been some slippage (not uncommon).

Will be using the Plaza Premium lounge on Sunday morning. But also looking forward to the new lounge

Have they got the liquor license sorted?

Was surprised as a business class passenger to be told no lounge access at Brisbane International. Only exception was for Emerald.

Palmed off with a food and beverage voucher.

Pathetic.

What else do you expect? Their lounge is closed...

That's really poor. I'd be very disappointed. Can I ask what the value was?

For years people have complained about the Qantas International Lounges in Brisbane. So now Qantas are spending some millions of dollars renovating and extending these lounges which has entailed lounges being closed for some months. Arrangements have been made by Qantas for eligible flyers to use the Plaza Premium Lounge in the meantime. However at times of peak demand the Plaza Lounge will not have capacity. Therefore Qantas provide flyers with a $40 voucher per passenger to enable flyers to buy food and beverage in the airport's outlets.
You can quibble about the amount of the voucher, but it seems to me that Qantas have made adequate arrangements.
