Burning points for status using JASAs

My best, quoting from this thread- http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...program/earn-points-scs-any-seat-22911-7.html

Ninja summary- 240SC for 73.6K, swings and roundabouts included...

I just booked a SYD-PER return that hops via melbourne in J. It get's me 240 status credits for the return flight and uses around 84K in points including carbon offset. But I earn another 8K or so with cabin bonus and status bonus, so the total trip is for 76K.

That equates to about $3.16 per status credit. If you factor in that 240 status credits is almost half way to another 500 status credits bonus of 5000FF points, then you can probably take another 2.4K worth of points off the 76K mark, so its more like 73.6K for 240 status credits, which equates to $3.06 per SC. Not bad at all.

You have to do the extra hop via Melbourne, but that is no biggy for most of us chasing SC's.

I'm now regretting not putting my CBA Gold/Amex into QFF direct earn. Might switch over soon.

SYD-PER-SYD via ADL is an extra 40SC for the same points. Awefully attractive for a quick SC run thats for sure.

Qantas new Karratha schedule, operated by B737-800 aircraft, will be:
one weekly return Karratha-Melbourne service operating on Mondays;
one weekly return Karratha-Sydney service operating on Thursdays; and
one weekly return Karratha-Brisbane service operating on Tuesdays.

Effective may this year. All are Y only services. 5 hours 45 minutes on a 738 and no J - yuck!

I didn't think they had any all Y 738's!

I just found, 100 S/c's for 16,000 plus $69. You earn 2500 points, so 13,500 plus $69 = 100 sc's. Good deal.

I know this may sound like a silly question but why are people valuing their QFF points at ~1c/QFF point when comparing value for any seat awards?

Surely QFF points are worth at least double that amount and would not make the any seat award look that attractive when valued using a higher rate.

This is roughly the rate that QANTAS assign for paying the extra taxes (i.e. all in). Hence this is what most people assume that the rest of their any seat award should be valued at.

from the few JASA that i've checked, the rate is more like 1.4 to 1.6 cents per point. (I'm going to double check this to confirm that my experience matches what is reported here)

[/aside=] while the payment is effectively for taxes, the ASA technically terms it as a payment to reduce the number of points required.

Ok I've done a quick check of the option reported here from page 7 to now. Results straight from excel as follows. Lowest 1 cent per point, range 1 to 1.67 cents per point. Sorry didn't include Dazz81's example as it didn't include the full ASA points cost.

Code:
73322	60000	$197.78	0.014846119
42113	36000	$102.6	0.016783903
31000	24000	$89 0.012714286
90934	50000	$412.9	0.010086969
29162	24000	$77 0.014916699

To add to the value of the discussion what is the points cost if you do it all as points and do not pay the $69 :?:

21689, mentioned it in post 90. There certainly are some interesting options around if one sits there exploring qantas.com.

Ta.

Post #90 went over my head. That is even better than the 120 Scs for 31,000 points I have just done.

Excellent. :D

While i enjoy the thrill of the chase... any hints dazz? i've spent about an hour searching and trying different routes, but i'm not doing so great at it....

I will give you a hint, both locations have been known to see snow in the nearby mountains, both have a casino, and dont have too many J services each day, they both have a QP ;)

Its a very good find however working into a schedule is problematic.

Hint received gratefully:D

They're both capitals too, but I guess you can deduce that from the QANTAS Club. Most of the routes between the two only earn 80 SCs, and cost 16,000 pts + $58.91. 792mi for the route, so don't know why it's only 16k, other than the fact the direct route is only 527mi.

NB, if you haven't figured it out, I turned up to an OzFest (for about 5 mins) at one of the cities.

Taking into account loyalty bonuses and points earnt, 12,500 pts + $68.88 net for 100SCs. So, 175,000 + $964.32 for Platinum from nothing.
