The pictures of the injured wildlife on KI are just distressing. I’m trying to find a donation site to give to the wildlife rescue people in KI and can’t find anything. Don’t want to give via the Govt Dept. Edit Found it on their FB page.

I've know a number of these and have worked quite closely with them on a number of responses and they do a great job. They are all volunteers and not paid by the government but the government supports them with some infrastructure. I think their website is down because there is a link in an ABC story about how to donate to them and it's probably being hammered. If it doesn't come back let me know and I'll message someone and ask what they want.

What this QF814 or QF2130? Both MEL-CBR, 814 landed CBR, 2130 diverted to SYD. 1547 from BNE was the last to land, then 2130 diverted, and everything after that was cancelled.
No idea - article doesn’t say......

From the article it seems the flight landed in CBR and wasn't diverted. Also the photos looked like a 737 not the Dash (QF 2130).

apart from the MRIs having problems at Canberra Hospital apparently smoke was in the birthing suites and they are trying to get air filters for NICU as the oxygen levels are going too low!

Getting away from politics and back to the fires. Canberra is really eerie today. Such heavy smoke cover there was an orange glow from the sun this morning and now it’s a sickly yellow colour. Our AQI is 3153/812. Southside is the place to be (Cossie and others) where they are only 1655/443 :)

Despite an apparent easong in air quality, Southside hasn't been the place to be for days.
It has been very murky.
The Monash aq site indicated around 820 this am, but looking south from my lounge room windows, I could see across the cul-de-sac to the house opposite but the house below that was invisible. That is about 60 metres.
Normally the visibility extends past the lake and Tugg office buildings to the mountains in the distance - maybe 12km or more.

Apparently Tuggeranong is getting worse and we are easing. I have stopped using the ACT health site as it is a 24 rolling average so pretty inaccurate. This ones gives more “real time” readings. The sites all seem to be slightly different, but the net effect is it’s all hazardous to health

Your side of town seems insanely bad at the moment.

Some hopefully useful rain is about to reach many of the fire affected areas:
unfortunately not a lot of rain except for the far south coast of Victoria.

My focus area of the Snowy Mountains - Jindabyne received 1mm. Most of the light blue dots have been toward the lower end of the scale of 0.2mm to 9mm.

We've got a lot of smoke again today. Left one window ajar overnight and the whole ground floor stinks.
What you have to careful of is PM2 - it doesn’t smell and it is the most hazardous esp to a baby. The smell comes from PM10 but it’s not as harmful. I have given up opening anything and I am hanging a wet towel over the dog door - we have an older generation one and it doesn’t seal at all well.

we have had some trace rain and it has helped with the smoke, but it will start up again soon no doubt :(

We have had maybe 1 or 2mm of rain which has washed the atmosphere to the extent we can now see just past the lake.
It doesn't smell outside like it did yesterday unless I am getting used to it.

Glad that parts of Victoria and NSW received some rain.

I read a lot of articles over the weekend about the bushfires and the causes, each article seems to push its own agenda so you need to read a lot.

There is climate change, yes we are in a dry spell, there is government red tape, there probably hasn't been enough back burning or clearing, there is a lot more people who like to live in the country, and one article I saw said that fires had been deliberately or carelessly lit fires.
I am surprised not more people have died.

If it were one or 2 issues then it would be able to fixed easily.

It’s the PM10 which smells rather than PM2. All 3 sites I am checking have Monash as the worst of the 3 stations at the moment. Two are at hazardous and one which claims to be real time has Monash at poor and worsening. Still looking on the bright side it’s all way better than yesterday where all 3 stations were off the charts

having had a good look at the Canberra Air site and decided it’s possibly inaccurate - the site they use to get their info uses satellite extrapolation where they don’t have stations so sounds dodgy to me. I am going back to using ACT health and this one
