Bushfires 2019/2020!

Oh, my goodness!! Where else have I read disdain, hate, name-calling and all the rest?

The hectoring by ex the fire guys is no different from former politicians in general (Prime Ministers, in particular). "Oh, you should do this, this and that! (Ahem ... not that we did it while we were in charge ... but anyway ...) "

I know that it’s late, but I will give it a go anyway.

THIS is the AFF. It is full of ignorance, hyperbole and half-truths (and that’s being kind).

The articles referenced were opinion pieces in the SMH. You would expect a higher standard to apply, but not in this case. I mean WTF does calling academics “Inhumane” actually achieve ... apart from making yourself look like a duck?

But this is not the issue - the real point is that very few here will have read both opinion pieces and their respective comments, because that might actually mean they get a fuller view of the topic of HRBs.

Likely Adelaide and KI plus many other parts of SA will be in flood after the weekend.

We seem to be straying from the facts again - and I can understand why.

it will be interesting to see the Q&A special on Monday, particularly if the topic of HRBs gets a spin-free hearing.

Sadly, I see this subject which pits AFFers against one another is still going. I thought it was being closed down by @Admin and we'd get back to travel. :(

A while back , I bewailed the lack of quality argument from the climate activists.
Input like this : THIS is the AFF. It is full of ignorance, hyperbole and half-truths (and that’s being kind)…... will likely result in the subject being banned.

Getting back to bushfires, Canberra is looking like having a scary day tomorrow, but there is a cool change coming through on Sunday.

Adelaide and KI in particular received a LOT of rain yesterday. No mention on any fires remaining this morning. Very humid and sticky - we Adelaidians don’t like humid and sticky - but change is sweeping through in next couple of hours.

Mid 30s in Tas yesterday and a couple of fires started up. Soon controlled and we had rain overnight. Some smoke in the Launnie area:

These 2 young blokes just jumped off the bridge to cool off! ( Downtown Launceston )

We really could do with a lot of rain - the whole town is so dry it’s like a tinderbox. I am not surprised a landing light from a helicopter was able to start a fire!

Though I am a little annoyed with the hyperbole in the media about the state of emergency etc. Have relatives contacting us to see if we are safe. Yes, the Namadgi fire is serious but the whole of Canberra is not being burnt to a crisp as some reports seem to infer.

Yes, the headlines made me check the map then I figured you would be fine. I am so sick of the headline stuff. So last night we had a nice drop of rain. And yes Port Lincoln did get flooded but everywhere else pretty much was fine. But the media are carrying on like Noahs Ark is required. It has stopped raining. It isnt going to rain for week. Chicken little. Of course while it lasted it was very wet and a huge thunderstorm on the seafront, so much so that with the wide windows to the sea the dark sky light up and a crash of thunder sent the cat into the cupboard. He has never done that before. And another couple and we had booked a restaurant on Henley Square and we walked to it, up there it was just wet, back it was lightening and rain but we had a nice bottle of wine and pre dinner champagne so we figured we were safe ;)kept walking with our umbrellas likely acting as Lightening rods!

Bad news sells :(. I have to admit I am a bit nervous about our reserve - one spark and our whole suburb will go.

Mr FM just came back from Epic Markets and his fish people weren’t there this week. One of the other stall holders told him their sheds burnt down - they are in the Narooma area. They were there last week, so I assume it’s just happened.

They arrested two people last night for doing burnouts at Uriarra! For non Canberrans - that’s going into the bush not far from Canberra. Probably stolen vehicle as well, which says it all :(

Yes, the south coast is still burning away.

Smoke over Devonport and Latrobe on Friday as well probably from the fire in the Tamar valley. Also not as warm as Eastern tasmania-only got to 29C.But all the locals insisted it was a heatwave.seriously-struggling to get to 20C today and a fair bit of rain overnight and today.

Firefighters did a magnificent job today. Quite a few Queenslanders apparently. They were helped by favourable winds and humidity. Masses of retardant dropped so containment lines held and Tharwa is still OK. More problems further south where Michelago and Bredbo are at risk. Cool change coming through tomorrow, so if the winds don’t cause a problem should be OK in our area after that.

Namadgi's on the move again - looks like it's reached Corin Dam. Upgraded to Watch and Act again. Big plume of smoke visible over Red Hill.
Winds were bad late afternoon. The Corin ski resort owners are staying to defend :(

looks like the whole Namadgi is going to burn
