Bushfires 2019/2020!

I am waiting to hear what "Climate" action Australia could have taken 10 years ago that would have prevented these fires, given events elsewhere in the world (eg China, India). Instead of standing King Canute -like on a beach hoping for a climate miracle from our computer models, we could have taken some concrete prevention action to reduce the danger on the ground instead of the atmosphere. We didn't.
or more Importantly what action / inaction on fuel reduction was undertaken

I wish we could hear more on how various areas that could be covered by 60,000 years of history of land management.
I don’t want to hear from more ‘burning experts’ with fewer than 58,800 years experience.

IMO, this post illustrates perfectly what indigenous Australians have to overcome. I won't listen to you on most issues, but when you can serve a purpose for my political needs .... I'm more than happy to roll you out in front of the media.

Such a waste ....

Bugger me if I wasn't thinking exactly the same thing, amaroo, Best I get to bed 'coz that's just too weird!

Strange that a fire would 'just start'. Don't think there were any storms for dry lightning, ember attack doesn't seem possible.

Could it be some moronic idiot who thought the firies didn't have enough to do?
If my mail is correct this new fire was accidentally started by a helicopters overheated search light that ignited grass beneath it while hot refuelling today.

Oh really? That’s interesting - what was the source for that?

Fire in Orroral Valley is currently 9kms SW of Tharwa and 15kms from Banks. Moving SE towards Boboyan Road, away from the city. However, the ESA has increased the warning level for Banks, Condor, Gordon and Calwell.

The fire near the airport is out. They are patrolling the area to prevent flare ups.

It’s a worry as temperatures are heading ever higher over the next few days, although winds aren’t too bad. Tharwa is such a pretty village

I remember back in the 80s when a colleague roared out into a paddock in his Brumby, demonstrating it's off road characteristics. He got out and started inspecting where some earthworks were to be constructed. After awhile a burning smell alerted him to the fact that his hot muffler had started a grass fire which took a lot of putting out.

Yes, that happened with an SA fire and that one caused major damage. Completely unintentional and he had just stopped his car on tall grass. Tried to put it out but it roared into life.

They have also drawn up an evacuation plan for Canberra’s Southern suburbs - just in case. Things like having buses etc

Can’t reveal the source but it’s solid from eyes on ground.
Spot on with your info. Apparently 6 soldiers were clearing land for fire fighters to land if a fire broke out, when a fire did break out due to an over heated landing light. Aircraft sustained some damage, so it must have been quite frightening for them. Quite ironic that a preventative action actually caused a bad fire!

View from our front deck at 8pm.
It's now darker but cannot see the red tinged that we could before.
Rather smoky, but the wind seems to be from the (south?) west.
And half a metre of rain in FNQ.20200128_203001.jpg

Sadly, this is not an uncommon occurrence. I have seen evidence of this type of thing a number of times over the years. A hazard of the trade trying to insert remote area fire fighters and equipment.
