Business Class Slop

Frankly the J lounge food looking sloppy is not a huge deal. It's more the fact that when you go through the bain marie, there's nothing but a few scant vegetables and no meat.

Damn shame as the stuff actually tastes good more often than not when you can scoop up an acceptable portion.

There was a green chicken curry in the BNE J Lounge a couple of weeks ago. Naturally, not even close to spicy for a real curry (let alone a green curry), but the flavours were there, and the tray had plenty of pieces of moist, tender chicken in it. Good filler.

Call it slop (how do you present it better?)...still better than the immediate competition. How hard is it to make braised Mexican bean mix? Another gourmet hot dog anyone?

And Mal, re the race to the bottom, you're comparing a domestic J lounge to an international F lounge, where the latter has had a far harder fall than the former (if the former has even fallen from a standard). Maybe they should send a random health auditor to the QF J lounge, but be damned if they score as poorly as BS did at one of BA's premier home lounges.

I'd rather keep the hot slop than see it go, but that said the lounges could do a better job at ensuring there's a consistent amount of food in the bain maries.

When I had their stylised (can't say deconstructed, lol) version of chicken cacciatore a few months back (in BNE I think) I found it quite pleasant. Maybe they are trying to cut costs, and starting to water things down?

As mentioned above, if you want coughpy Mexican and hot dogs, try the Virgin lounges, but don't look for any spirits

The Thai green curry in the QF J lounges is pretty good
The chicken parmas as not really parmas but they are VERY good

I am pretty sure I have had the "slop" as mentioned above, and it's not the best, but it's variety

Again if you want bad food, head to the Virgin lounge when the menu hasn't rotated for years

I've also observed a decline in CL food quality recently as well, it's not just confined to the J Lounge. Is it at all possible that QF changed caterers?

QF changed the lounges to Sofitel managed/run or something like that I THINK... No idea if that means catering changed too

End of the day it'll be cost cutting

It could be the same caterers, but with a new (lower) tender price to keep to. I haven't noticed any change in staff recently. Not that that would be an indicator - just saying.

Maybe it's called outsourcing enhancements ?

I think you're correct about the cost cutting. Most of our CL budget is going to the Melbourians being brought up to standard :D I was just there yesterday and was dismayed to find myself with the 'masses' (sarcasm, I really couldn't care less). Solution: spend even less time in lounges

I have eaten a couple of times in the J lounges in Syd and CBR over the past couple of weeks. Some observations are that the Plat Du Jour is generally pretty good... had a great little tart in CBR and a nice toasty sammo in Syd... nothing to complain about especially considering it's free... General rule of life is ALWAYS stay away from a bain-marie.

Plus, doesn't the food get in the way of the alcohol anyway?

Apologies for the delay. Here is a photo of the aforementioned slop. I count three pieces of chicken. Any higher bids?

Why do airlines need well known chefs, surely they themselves can come up with some real nicely presented basic food.

I had that last week with the roasted vegetables on offer and it was actually quite pleasant. Admittedly, there was still plenty of chicken in it. Along with some salad from the buffet and a bread roll it made for a pretty decent meal. Certainly better than the Cottage Pie which pax were served on my flight.

YMMV, but I think alongside the Plat du Jour option the J Lounges have a pretty good offering. They need to rotate the dishes more though - I'm a bit sick of the Argentinian Beef with Couscous.

I avoid the bucket dip and head for the soup.
