Devils advocate here: Without the benefit of flight loadings etc. It maybe QF's low impact period hence the upgrade/teardown. Given the above when would AFF members prefer this type of activity to occur? Without any other stats surely it's a no win situation?

Given they don't close the Qantas Clubs for long periods to conduct maintenance, you can see why there's scepticism about it being for 'maintenance'. If they can conduct the same maintenance in the QC without closing it, surely they can do it in the J lounge as well.

As mentioned above, they don't close the QC for 3 weeks for maintenance, that is a busier lounge with far more people through it

The toilets in SYD J could sure do with some maintenance though

Point taken but we don't know what the on-going annual/otherwise/if any maintenance schedule is for these facilities. It's plausible that there is a greater client impact at other times if the proposed works aren't carried out according to the QF schedule. Omg please start with the SYD toilets.

No you have missed the point

When is the Qantas Club closed for 3 weeks ?

The toilets in MEL J aren't anything to write home about. ADL QP is streets ahead in that regard.

I'm not that fussed about the closures to be honest, but I've only got one domestic flight during the period though. Haven't been through the SYD QP for quite some time so I'm looking forward to a change of scene :)

This year as last, my gripe is the deceitful manner in which QF brands a cost saving measure as a maintenance issue.

From what I recall, little if any maintenance was carried out during the downtime last year.

This thread pretty much demonstrates a lot of what is wrong with Qantas. Even their most loyal fliers have lost trust in Qantas (and in particular, anything they say).

An honest "these dates are quiet so we are closing the lounge" (because if we save money its better for QF and its shareholders as we have money to spend on other things and keep our staff happy by giving them time off over xmas) - would be better .

Without dredging up last years thread, ISTR that there was little evidence of "maintenance" and at least one broken glass panel in the Mel lounge at the completion of "maintenance".

They should've done the reverse, i.e. close the QP and redirect QP/SG members to J Lounge instead. At least that may inspire them to go for WP

I just realised I have another flights in the last week of the closures.

If they closed both lounges then I would be really worried.

Well lucky that the normal QP doesn't need any cleaning - obviously the members over there are used to wallowing in their own filth. However my heart goes out to the poor CL members in MEL. It is bad enough that they have had to lower themselves to using the J lounge, but now to have to use the QP. :(

Yes; the classic double down grade!

Its like booking F; getting two beeps at the boarding gate and being shown to your new Y seat :)

I know we're talking about Dom J lounges here, but can anyone ease my concern and clarify the Int F lounge is open on Christmas Day? Traipsing to Dallas on the 25th.

yes it is open, as you stated we are talking about domestic business lounges.

Maintenance is done in the domestic J Lounges, only. ;) Not the QP or the F lounge, so no closures there.

Totally and utterly a cost saving exercise, albeit at the expense of their elite pax who they cannot afford to be p1ssed off. These premium lounge closures are now regular event, and while I do not often travel with QF during this period, the principle is enough to divert my business to DJ. In the face of AJs recent financial annual results every cost saving window is open and I am wary of future enhancements. Here's hoping QFF is not adversely impacted.

Drat: My Boxing Day - Sydney First Lounge > Sydney Domestic Business > Qantas Club

My other half isn't going to like this as a Platinum, we have already been bumped from QF19 SYD-BNE as the Manilla flight no longer goes via Brisbane. Now we will be in the QC on Boxing Day in Sydney after 48hrs with the inlaws as opposed to Tatt and a nice breakfast in the first lounge.

Nothing that can be done but it doesn't endear Qantas to me.

have a J booked SYD-JNB on the 25th Dec....grr!! i should be able to use the International Business Lounge in Sydney though right? What other options do we have in Brisbane? maccas

no Maccas at Brisbane, although the QP will be open, so its not a big deal, in fact BNE WPs might enjoy the fact they can get a seat for a change!
