Looks like Virgin have cancelled all flights scheduled to/from the Gold Coast (OOL) between 12pm Thursday 6 March and 12pm Friday 7 March.
Got a link for that? I can only see reports of Thursday flights being cancelled, and that's in the media. Virgin's website page hasn't changed since Monday.

Looking at the Gold Coast Airport flight status on their website, most flights on all airlines have been cancelled from later this afternoon and into tonight.

No duration given...

Sandbags have been the traditional emergency flood mitigation method. Maybe in the future government / property owners can consider alternatives like Boxwall.
Interesting!

When we sandbagged our old house for one of the floods, we didn't account for the ingress from weep holes in the brickwork. 😢
This looks like it would account for that. Though for that house, it would need to be about 2m high.

How does this cyclone compare with the 1974 one that flooded Brisbane?
I'm not sure as I wasn't living in Brisbane then (or anywhere, actually, just a zygote or something I guess :P)

I know the flooding we had in 2022 was worse in our area than 1974 - and it was a well known flooded area in 1974, with many houses and businesses resumed afterwards. My area also floods due to creeks - tidal water rising in parts of the creek and runoff coming from the other end of the creek. But I only have anecdotes.

Just spent an hour running around Brisbane CBD to find a powerbank for my Mum.

JB HiFi, Big W, Target, Officeworks, Apple, the Powerpod ATM outside Target were all sold out. Found a guy in a phone/phone accessory story in the Myer Centre, sorry UpTown, unpacking an order of powerbanks. Hooray!

As scarce as water. And loo paper. And bread. And milk. And meat.

We have some more things to pack up this afternoon/tonight or bring inside and from there we should be OK. Gladly we haven't taken our 10c bottles back, so we have some empty soda water bottles to use. We already have two fairly full rainwater tanks, so will be able to use that for loo flushing if required.

Sharknado!

In 40 years this will be the first "direct hit" for us , not expecting much excitement @cat2 maybe a few trees.
Cat3 is another story, and we may suffer some structural damage, how much is moot.

My wind sniffing suggests a fairly benign experience..lets hope my old-factory organ is on the money.

I expect some flash flooding across brisvegas but no serious water as there will not be enough concentration time even if it rains heavily.

And here in SA in the hills people have no water due to our drought (SA Water don't provide mains water to much of the Adelaide Hills) and they are having to open up special water depots for people to get drinking water but they can forget about showers and toilets. And there's no end in sight here.

Isn't it more about the expected extra high tide and not the actual rain?
