The joke going around town (Cairns) is that Brisbane will get the cyclone but we’ll still cop the Insurance price hike to compensate. I’m already paying $5.5k p.a. for home & contents, so I’m hoping the thought only remains a joke.

I'm flying MEL-BNE on Saturday 8. If they lose power in the city, do we think flights will still operate?

Sydney to Gold Coast and back on the same day for me, a status run to get to Silver, which no longer seems worth earning. So I'm hoping for cancellation and refund. But the return is a separate booking, so both flights will need to be cancelled....

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm meant to be transiting through on Saturday morning, SYD-BNE-APW. On a DSC booking, no less, so the alternative to fly Fiji Airways out of Sydney is a good but annoying alternative.

Very unlikely that any power outages will be fairly localised and restored quickly after the wind dies down. Unlikley to have much impact in terms of long power outage at the airport.

The biggest concerns for power disruptions are on the Moreton Bay islands, and Energex is pre-positioned generators in locations where they expect extended outages may result from inability to facilitate repairs in a timely manner. Obviously anywhere with overhead power lines should expect some disruptions may occur. And even areas with underground supply rely on overhead delivery to the region.

Got a link for that? I can only see reports of Thursday flights being cancelled, and that's in the media. Virgin's website page hasn't changed since Monday.
