I have seen something similar happen once also on QFd in J. Pax is Row 1 found all the row 2 luggage on both sides taken - and they were the only J pax to have boarded at that (apart from me in Row 2 with a computer bag under the seat in front for the same reason). Blocked the aisle and called the flight attendant who did exactly what you reported above @jb747. It was very effective! Wish they would do it more often.

Travelling with two toddlers means I cannot take my backpack off until I get to my seat (and I'd love to pack less but two kids need entertaining and feeding). At least I'm careful not to swing around. And my nappy bag always goes under the seat.

On a VA flight from BNE - MEL a few weeks back a lady took it upon herself to slide my carry on from one end of the overhead to the other (thereby making it behind my row of seats).

I waited until she sat down, got up and moved it back, switching it with hers.

With all the troubles especially QF has had of late they seem to not be checking the baggage allowance like they use to. 9 out of my last 10 flights have been delayed on a 737 because there was not enough luggage space for people bringing 2 bags on. So what happens when there is not enough space for bags, it has to be put in the hold. By that time we have missed our slot and are delayed until clearance. I have sat on the tarmac for 60+ minutes multiple times of late because of these issues. A 95 minute flight from gate to gate takes now 120-150 minutes.

In comparison, I flew Jetstar down to Hobart in August and that plane was loaded very quickly as everyone knew that if they carried too much they would be charged. Perhaps I should have posted this in 'what cheeses me off'

This reminds me of a JetBlue flight we took in the USA in 2015. They charged for checked bags (which we did). People were lined up very early to board the plane with huge amounts of carry on baggage, so we were near the end for boarding as they boarded the rear passengers first and we were up near the front. When we got to our seats the overhead bins above us were being stacked with several carry on bags, including shopping etc, by a passenger from way back down the aisle. My husband who is sometimes short on patience, told him to remove them so that we could put our bags in. The male passenger then abused him verbally and loudly, quite frightening actually. So husband tried to put his small backpack in the bin on top of this mans shopping. This passenger then shaped up to punch my husband and yelling at him. The flight attendant then came down, didn't say anything to the abusive passenger and told us that we would have to check our carry on in the hold as the bins were full. My husband fumed and needless to say my husband vowed to never fly JetBlue ever again!

US carry-on is basically ridiculous.
I recall a flight ORD - LAX where I was in (US) F and I could see a guy "hovering" near the gate with 2 bags about the size of the "bat bags" mentioned above. He was clearly a priority customer as they let him on as soon as boarding started, and lo and behold it turned out I was sitting next to him, with the bins directly above fully occupied. I squeezed my miserable backpack into a niche across the aisle, and commented to him that he was fortunate he could get away with so much carry on.
His reply .... god looks after the righteous.
At least that stopped any further conversation for the duration of the flight.

Our recent BA flight VCE-LHR was full and half way through boarding the FA announced that people should put their carry ons in the first available bin.
However we were in row 2 and our carryons were in row 3. Mr 3C arrives and pushes my bag from the front of the 3 bin to the back. He was first up but I was ready for him. I do find it easy yo block the aisle. I suggested to him that as he had moved my bag back I was likely to hit his head as I retrieved it. he suggested I should let him pass. No way that was going to happen. He made a fatal mistake moving back a step so Mr 3B got in front of him and kindly retrieved my bag. Hopefully Mr. 3C learns a lesson but I doubt it.

Haven’t we all had these experiences with selfish entitled types.

I do empathise with flight crew having to intervene (balancing the rights of this customer is always right versus the a—hole who thinks its their right to use everyones else’s overheads). My experience has been most side w me in these scenarios but can see this is not always the case.
Sadly we now go to the plane early to get on (even though we travel J and leave the lounge early).
Hate dealing with these people and I never let move my stuff. I never put valuables in overhead.

I am sympathetic to FAs who really aren't paid enough to get into the niceties of sorting out pax, except for gross breaches of regulations. But since every passenger has to pause at the door and show their BP, a request "please lower your backpack to avoid hitting people" as they pass (maybe 1 in 10 or 20 pax?) would seem not a great demand and is actually a safety issue (face-swipe prevention!). If they are busy with something else, or not taken notice of, then but it would help a bit.

Our family unit (x3) has been guilty of this when travelling domestic J, each PAX is allowed a larger (international size) + a handbag or computer bag or a couple of smaller rolly bags. Then there is the OH bin configuration IIRC there are still OH configurations that have the megaphone at the start of R1 (A side) so you are already encroaching into R2. Some of the older OH bin configurations also do not allow for the international size carry on to be stored wheels at the back and end up sideways. Also, in R1 there is no option to store under the seat in front and everything has to stored in the OH bins. In the past QF cabin crew used to offer to take and stow carry on somewhere at the front of the plane but this seems to have gone by the wayside.
