Carry on Luggage

I was on the Silversea charter from SCL to WPU. Very laid back private charter - no check in, security screening or weighing of baggage.
Same luggage experience for team Lat34 on Silversea Antarctica cruise in Feb this year. Charter flight from SCL to Puerto Williams, very laid back.

You kept the cardboard box?
No I took photos of the labels. Not sure what I needed for the insurance claim which I've just finalised this week. The extra couple of hundred dollars I paid to have no excess was a smart move.

So I paid 156 UKP and the insurance company paid that out at $279.50 - quite a lot less than $450
The shipping of a suitcase from UK to AUS is probably the extra cost. When I'm buying gear like that I wouldn't ship it overseas but somehow try to have it kept in country until I can collect it in person.

Why do people value/go for hard shell carry-ons? They'll only get treated as roughly as the user chooses.

I've had both and don't really like the soft now I've had hard shells. Dont like the fabrics. Think they feel flubby and I don't even know what I mean by that. 😀Just a preference I guess

Thanks for that! Definitely in the mix for me - and 2 wheelers too!! 😍 But a bit heavy at +2kg.

I'm mainly shopping for my Antarctica trip in December, where the Charter flight down to board has strict 8kg hand luggage limit - gawd - good camera, tablet PC, medicines other electronics..... I'm actually thinking of one of those multi-coloured polycarbonate shopping bags with handles.

Sounds interesting - we can discuss.

Thanks also.
When you have 7 Kg limit you dont want a heavy bag the multi coloured polycarbonate is a good idea...

Yes, I can't see why not. I'll be picked up from Hotel to airport to cruise ship so carrying it for a little bit won't be a drama.

The only drama might be the looks of horror and disdain of my fellow SilverSea pax when they observe down their noses my polycarb bag Vs their $3K Antlers etc! 😳🤣

$3K Antlers? no way is Antler premium priced luggage! But very good value, one of my favourite carry-on rollers after more than 10yrs is the Antler New Size Zero 55cm, that I think I paid about $150 for.
