From ausbt article I assumed JB said new catering wef 1 Sep. Any idea on when?

thanks, curious to see what will it be. i do have a flight on 6th, will update if it is updated..

no updated catering yet but FA was very happy to say a new menu launches today. Given the menu and items for sale I dont think there is any substantial change coming to catering in Y.. cant post pics of new menu using mobile..

Thanks for the update. I hope this is wrong (that the big announcement was only about a paid menu change).

VA Dom Y catering is abysmal, literally any change would be an improvement- even removing free food and doing a decent paid menu would be preferable. FAs seem put out when someone orders off the paid menu because they have to get all of the free (awful) tidbits out - would be better if they could just focus on those who actually want something.

If they stick with free handouts just have a better option for EconX pax!

It was complimentry for a while.. on the plane now so hoping to see if catering has improved.. dont mind sending off an email to JB tonight ;)

For Y, it looks looks like the adjusted the menu options and pricing, plus added sparking. Nice to see periodic updates to options but nothing to rave about.

I thought they said they would introduce proper meals ala Qantas.

I'm afraid we are running the risk in this forum of having inflated expectations, once again. For no reason. The only mention in the refrenced AusBT article is "economy travellers can expect more substantial 'complimentary snacks'". That's it, there is no mention of specific routes, timings, size or meals (I don't think meals will ever happen, nor I want them). So I expect, it's simply that, slightly improved small snacks. I just flew through Canada and USA and that's all you get, a biscuit or nuts. I'd be more than happy with cheese and crackers on my short evening flight between Brisbane and Sydney.
Some of the new buy on board options in the menu do look better and improved, good to see olives, hopefully we'll see more of this.

alviau - were you on the flight between BNE and SYD evening... they did serve cheese and cracker with wine or beer

It's pretty sad that I'm excited about cheese & crackers, but that is actually an improvement for VA.

14:00 SYD-BNE flight yesterday - 60g Byron Bay milk choc chunk cookie plus a choice of tea, coffee, orange juice or water.
That cookie was huge compared to previous offerings!

Oh, and sparkling wine in J on the BNE - MEL flight.

BNE > CBR @ 15:00 yesterday and nothing was different. Tiny, tiny little jam-filled biscuit and tea, coffee, juice or water...

The Byron cookie (with smarties) was prev on sale in the old menu, $3-$4 IIRC. It's not bad. VA FAs have occasionally offered this to me complimentary, presumably as a WP in row 3... and the cookie was days from being out of "best before" date.
