Centurion 2011 Benefits

I have received 3 packages in the last week

- CX Diamond paperwork (not worth it for just 1 year)
- AFL/Fat Duck/Jewlery
- Bottle of red wine, 2000 vintage which I'm looking forward too, was a nice surprise, but I'm guessing that is because my renewal is in the next few weeks.

Are any of these event "offers" really something special? The ones I've received (AFL Grand Final, Fat Duck, AF1GP etc) just look like opportunities to spend money for tickets that are available from other sources in one form or another. They are hardly exclusive.

According to the invite, the Fat Duck gets 42,000 reservation enquiries a day. So I guess getting a table is pretty tough. The Centurion event at the end of June would be worth doing if you happened to be London at that time.

Of course, it's the CX Diamond offer has some real value!

Sometimes there are genuine freebies, such as the event near Mrs Macquaries Point, but mostly they are just opportunities to spend money. The thing is though you do get access to things that the general public can’t buy.

For example we have purchased VIP tickets to Carols in the Domain and unless you have an AMEX premium card or work for Telstra in a senior role (or whomever the major sponsor is now) you can’t get these tickets. Our daughter got to meet some of the performers, we got canapes and drinks in our own marquee before the show and then we sat up the front on chairs. For me, that’s the only way I would ever do one of these types of events. I have also bought myself a watch and my wife some jewellery (that we were going to buy anyway) at genuine discounts at some of the shopping events. We are going to another one next week and will probably take advantage of the discount again.

I missed out on the El Bulli event last year as we were overseas when the invitation arrived and by the time I called it had sold out. It’s so, so difficult to get into this restaurant (even trickier now that it’s on hiatus) and we were already going to be in Europe so this would have worked beautifully. Similarly with the latest Fat Duck offer - I’ve tried to get in twice now without success and I would have considered taking up the offer if we weren’t scheduled to be in Canada at the time.

I got a bottle of wine today from Centurion, interesting though mine was 2008 not 2000! However my renewal date is a good 6 months away yet!

A bottle of wine arrived today in very complex packaging - black outer tube and flexible inner tube.

The renewal date is well into the second half of the year.

Maybe it's in response to the Citi Select offers?

I missed the delivery today... perhaps its the bottle of wine?!
Did it come via Australian air express??

PS: Hope it is the 2000 vintage one

First post on this site. Have been following the thread and must say as a Centurion member they've FINALLY started to turn things around from a service level (my experience that is) after many false starts with me in first 6months of joining. I too received (and consumed) my wine yesterday and must say I hope there is going to be more of that calibre of direct marketing. Let's face it, as a business wanting to flog their product, getting onto the Centurion data base is gold for any marketer.

Regarding the Cathay Pacific MP Diamond offer, I was stoked! My travel has ramped considerably in past 2 years but I wouldn't have been clocking up those sort of miles to have achieved that status (OW Emerald). I'm taking wife and in-laws to London via HK later this year and will be flying Bus class (booked Cathy though Centurion). It's now nice to know we have this little perk even it is is for just one year.

Mind you, wife and I will go to First lounge and leave in-laws to Bus lounge!

Received package, about size of iPad, in clear platic wrapping and my name on one side, Centurion embossed on the other. I look forward to opening it shortly to read what's it all about.

m.... what is it?? let us know about it!

Don't get too excited everyone. The mysterious package........contains........suspense........the insurance terms and conditions.

I must say, not the most exciting.

Mine was in a white envelope and not as big as an iPad as the OP described so I think the OP might have something else on his hands.

Well it's a no-brainer, really. By invitation only Centurion at cost of $4,300. As stated, it's a 'long term investment'. And it has to be accepted in the next four weeks. Need to figure the ROI.

Congratulations. Though I must say a package with a clear plastic wrapper, about the size of an iPad, is a diminution of the Centurion welcome package we've seen over the past five years or so. I'm sure it's not a reflection on your worth to Amex ;) but maybe it indicates some cost savings?

haha homer. you made my day...

CX Diamond seems to be an excellant value point for Cent - avoiding the initial 210k miles to qualify is a big leg up to maintaining OWE, I wonder if anyone can put a $ figure on the 90k miles you effectively get for nothing in this offer (requal being only 120k going forward).

If you do fly 120 miles a year, this cx offer saves you roughly 1 year's time to qualify.

From green to silver, then from silver to gold (for the first year).
Then you will achieve Diamond after 1st yr with the same flying pattern.

Value of time varies from person to person. Alternatively, cheapest L fare Y class to get 90k will cost you around $9075 on CX metal. YMMV:mrgreen:

But re-qualifying cx diamond is not that easy unless you have strong ties in the following CX destination: HKG, LHR, JFK, YYZ etc

Prior to this offer, I can maintain CX Gold & QF WP by flying less than 120k miles, now Im deciding whether the additional flying time in flying to requalify for CX DM is worth it.

PS, I don't mind losing QF WP and keep only CX DM, but I am not a big fan of spending additional time on a flight unless absolutely required.

I have only been a Centurion member for a few months - but I have not received any offers yet :(

Still waiting for the CX Diamond paperwork - and have also had trouble getting all my other "stuff" registered (Priority Card, Hilton Honors etc). I find that the Centurion Customer Service team are quite good to deal with - but have not had much success with the Travel team.

Don't know if I will renew after my initial 12months is up.

Cheers,

Brooke

...

I am into my second year now. It took some time to work out where Centurion Travel and Concierge offers exceptional service, and when to give them a miss.

The posts on this site have been invaluable. I followed up on many suggestions and hints.

I signed up some family members for supplementary cards. The insurance benefits alone make the card worthwhile.
