Change in Platinum Card Travel Insurance?

So what this really about, is a darstedley plot to move plat to centurion. Where upon they will introduce a solid gold card which will cost $10,000. the good news is when you have had enough you melt it down for bullion.

Agreed. They better don't touch the Centurion insurance!

I suspect the Centurion one is drafted but not finalised...(Based on what the ACE staff told me)
Perhaps if we complain now, we might be able to stop them from providing a second class TI to their top tier customers.

"Full Fare" is definitely paid by my company - That's a a joke!
I cant see myself paying taxi & train fare on my amex...its almost impossible in some countries. I would probably have a better chance just to pray to the god.
$250 excess on an unlimited medical cover - where on earth did they come up with that idea?!
I also noticed that the "loss of life" payout is considerably less than the previous TI. 1M vs 400k, cant even cover a normal mortgage lol.

1M is Centurion 400k is Platinum.
The life of a Centurion is worth 2.5 times that of a Platinum, but we pay over 4 times more.

This has to be the first thread on AFF where every single person is in agreement :o

Just got my Platinum card and the insurance was a big part of it. Seriously considering cancelling the card now. What is the best way to lodge a complaint. Is there an email address we can all petition towards?

Hi tmgreen,

Welcome to AFF. :D

On the web site, once logged in, there is a link under contact us to a form to fill in. Like a few others, I have pointed Amex at this thread.

Interesting that a few new members have posted in this thread (presumably after googling it)...
Shows that the general public realise these "enhancements" are pretty nasty.

Can someone elaborate what this promotion with the free Starwood night was that got mentioned earlier?

There was an offer sent out that involved a free night at very select starwood hotels. I think (from memory) the only one in Australia was a Port Douglas, but there were a few in Asia, including the Maldives, and a few in the US and Europe...

Thanks! I recall similar offers in europe that went out earlier this year. Maybe I should call in and ask about it!

Like a number of others I called Amex & Ace this morning to voice my disappointment and ask for clarification. The Amex lady noted that they'd received a number of queries and apologised for not being able to answer some of the difficult questions I had (e.g. clarification about what "full fare" actually means) so transferred me through to Ace.

The impression I got from them was that they really don't care. I asked about points + pay, proving MR points were used for flights, how to deal with not being able to pay for some travel (e.g. London taxis on Amex) and none of the replies inspired confidence in claiming in the event of an accident. The rep's "our claims team will examine the claim" isn't comforting when you'd much rather have the info about whether or not you'll be covered up front.

She noted my feedback though and was going to "pass it along to her manager." When I said I doubted it would make any difference and that the policy wouldn't be changed she said "no, but it'll be useful for next time" (Centurion watch out was my reading of this). She suggested feedback to Amex but that's just passing the buck - Ace write the policy definitions and they've clearly done a very bad job on this one.

I haven't decided if I'll keep the card or not yet - I might just for the car rental insurance it provides and use TID or QBE for "proper" travel insurance. I'd like to imagine that if the significant backlash against Ace & Amex continues there might be a revised policy this time next year but I'm not holding my breath.

Good work Amex. I've been thinking of cancelling the card on a number of occasions but it is always the thought of the excellent Travel Insurance that held me back. Looks like I'll be dropping the card like many on here.

How nice of Amex to ask full fare to be charged to the card to activate the insurance when not everywhere accepted Amex. I booked a flight to Bangkok last month with Thai Airways direct and they do not take Amex at all. Under the new policy I'm pretty much stuffed. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

I registered my dissatisfaction via the website. (Not that it will do much good I suspect.) With Priority Pass and Marco Polo Gold being pretty much useless for me, the insurance was the last real value.

For those who have cancelled the card, did you get your full annual fee back or was it partial?
