Change in Platinum Card Travel Insurance?

I suspect that with ALL travel insurance there is a prexisting condition exclusion, .......even Amex?

That isn't the issue. It is the fact that the definition has changed so dramatically. See the post No. 138 for the actual definitions.

Sure there is, but not one that is so blatantly unfair as to say that having any one of a huge list of previous ailments excludes you from ALL medical claims.

So according to the new rules, if you had high cholesterol 10 years ago, went on an overseas holiday and got hit by a car, you wouldn't be able to claim for medical expenses!

Thats not what I understood, if that is the case then almost No One would EVER be able to claim, because lets face it most of us have some ailment from the past. i am now more keen to change than before

There is, but the old definition of pre-existing condition was that if something was stable and you weren't doing anything more than seeing a doctor for it for regular checkups, then it was covered. This is the primary reason I had the card - it avoided those awkward trips to the doctor for filling out forms and waiting for approval prior to a trip.

Correct - pre-existing conditions just mean that you can't make a claim for that specific condition, or something that arose directly from it. Having a heart condition does not prevent you from claiming for breaking a leg while skiing in Vail* (unless you are stunt skiing of course!) Or having a high cholesterol does not prevent you from claiming medical expenses when you get gastro in Fiji (speaking from experience there!)

* Off topic, but I have it on good authority that if you need a knee reconstruction, get it done in Vail - they do so many every year that now apparently the celebrity sports stars all go there to get them done!

The question is, are you comfortable with not able to claim for a heart attack because you just went to the dr just before you go away and told you the cholesterol was a bit high?

...or even if you have a stable, managed condition....

No, totally agree. Just making the point that pre-existing only means you can't claim for things related to that condition, as that's what the quote I responding to was about. I (like everyone else it seems) don't agree with the new terms, or the way they have been implemented.

I also got the letter and new Insurance T&Cs from Amex today ......

I think they should just dump ACE, and offer TID annual travel insurance for free as part of the Amex Plat Charge card facilities. I'm sure they can do a deal with TID!

I've said it before, but I'm pretty sure Amex are the ones pushing these changes. They probably think this will push people into buying their Amex branded TI policies. As if.

Yep, sorry for the confusion. I was basing my comment on a reply from someone who stated that any past condition invalidates all medical cover. I've checked the new policy and this is not the case, although I still think the new wording is terrible.

If that's their plan and they cut the annual cost of the Plat card by the cost of such a policy I am open to considering it. Otherwise Amex will be the last firm I buy insurance from.

So has any Centurion member had a letter yet confirming the changes? Nothing here...

Nothing here... Only heard it from the Amex operator. I also spoke to ACE, they claimed that the Centurion one has yet to be finalised.
I will speak to the relationship manager in the next few days and see if I can provide my concern to her.

Seriously - The annum fee itself should be more than enough to provide me with a decent insurance!

There is no change on the website yet. I will do so when I see mine too. Even if it is included but my concern is the change of policy terms will make the TI not sufficient. If that's the case I would rather them not offer it at all to save fees.

I have not decided whether to keep the Platinum Card or cancel it but I have moved ALL of my MR points out so my balance is not zero.

Could not agree more!

Really getting pissed off with the ever declining level of service and now if this happens well I think we could probably sue them if they keep branding as "Distinct. Superior. The Ultimate. The Centurion Card."

Ot: but good experience with the concierge team today with some baby gifts for a friend in hong kong

I just rang ACE and got the same story. I have a trip booked using FF points from 23 June to 18 July. The ACE rep confirmed that this would be covered but that any trip booked after 15 June would need to be paid for entirely on the card to be covered.

I already have travel in July, so that will be ok.

Looks like I will cancel card after that though.
