The 4 times a year thing is brilliant! The 100,000 restriction has never been a problem though really because as I see it everybody is a cousin of mine bearing in mind we are all descended from Adam and Eve!

If you really wanted to go biblical, then aren't we all brothers and sisters?

Share points between family update!

Hi all,

Just got the email saying that instead of 100K points per year to family member now can do up to 4x 100K a year
Thats 400K that can be transferred per year
Yippeee!

Re: Share points between family update!

Great "E" qantas....but now Mrs RC wants her points back that I "borrowed" last year!!

Re: Share points between family update!

I am really pleased to see this enhancement. My son owes me 3000 points and my daughter has 4000. I was having to wait until later in the year to sort it all out, but now I can boost my balance immediately. Thanks, Qantas and RedRoo.

Don't forget that there is a 5000 point min transfer amount.

Thanks, Flying Fox.
I will start with 5000 points of my own and go from there. It worked very well last time I "confiscated" points from my daughter. I had paid for her fare, so felt no shame.

Love the change as it allows us to load up one family member who has WP (usually me but now SG due to lack of flying since August 2011) who can now search and book for flights for the non WP family members.

I'd love it if you could transfer between OW accounts though. My wife has about 110k points in Qatar and so when they join up on 30 October, it would be good if she could transfer them all to me.

Regards
Daniel

In the email it says "one eligible family member"; on the website it says "an eligible family member".

Presumably the email is inaccurate and QF is allowing family transfers to more than one eligible family member.

And they don't even check the person is a family member. Simply select the members relationship to you from a drop down box.

Another "valid" interpretation in the confusion is that you would be allowed to transfer to an eligible family member four times a year, i.e. to rewrite it, you can transfer up to four times a year per each distinct family member. Theoretically an unlimited number of times depending on the size of your family (but naturally most of our families are of a finite size, let alone our "generous" QFF balances!)

Interpretation depends on which version is correct as they contradict each other. (seems to be the issue raised)

I suggest they complement each other. That is, a transfer may be made to one family member at a time, and four transfers may be made in a 12 month period. Well, that's what I think anyway.

What is max number of points that can be transferred each time 100K?.

Upto 100,000 points per transfer, 4 times per year.

Have done 2 just in the last month or less. The latest one was for just over 50k, with the 1st one not much.

The problem is the use of the words "one" or "an". If it is one eligible family member 4 times a year, that means you can do 4 family transfers per year in total. Alternatively, if I can transfer to an eligible family member 4 times a year; well I have about 45 people between children, SWMBO, parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, cousins, inlaws. So on the second interpretation I can make 180 family transfers per year - each eligible family member 4 times a year.

Then we have an every more strict interpretation that would say you can only do 4 transfers to the same (one) family member.

When what they really mean is we can do "4 transfers per year to an eligible family member". Basically, they have the words in the wrong order.
