Thanks for posting that you got your vouchers, oz_mark. I hopefully will get mine soon as well. As I've only 1 booking before ozfest (ADL in 10 days), then I may save until ozfest as well.

Sounds like we'll all have a wine party in someone's room ; who has the biggest room? :D

Just booked 2 nights in AKL using my $99 rate. Easy.

I can't see the value in using the Mac Bank Plat Visa even if I could get one. Looking at the rewards options, it's p*ss poor - much like blowing your points for shopping in any other off-the-shelf bank-offered credit card program. (That is, if you're going to blow your points for a toaster, you might as well go jump in the lake.)

I've got a spare wine/breakfast voucher somewhere that I got as compensation from HPC. I'll have to dig it out and find the expiry. We could have quite a bit of drink at Oz Fest #7 :D (and even more if I still had HHG by that time :()

I got mine.Unfortunately has my name on it otherwise i could have given it away.next 10 weeks in Tassie then off on a Circle Asia so doubt I will get to use it.

It basically is just any other off the shelf bank offered program. Still, comparing it to altitude and citi rewards (non-QFF version), it does seem to offer slightly more than those programs.

The value in transferring to QFF does not come about because the banks are generous!

As I have said before, I would have found the offer more compelling had there been more hooks into the hhonors program.

I was thinking the same before I saw the low rate balance transfer option (0% or 2.9%) for 6 months.

If I can get $10,000 limit then I will be saving ~$600 in interest or $20,000 limit then I will be saving ~$1,200 in interest. Makes the yearly $280 membership look OK for a couple of years...

I still have 2X $99 cards and was planning on using one myself and giving the other one to friends for an overnight stay we are planning to have together. I rang HPC and they told me, as expected, that the $99cards can only be used by members, but as some HPC members here have successfully given some to friends/family, I am thinking that Hilton may just accept them at check in without requesting /checking membership status and no questions asked.
I could book 1 room in my name and 1 room in my friends name or 2 rooms in my name from the HPC site using the "book a $99 room" field but I am not sure which way would be the easier/safer option.
I would not feel very good if Hilton do not accept the card and ended up charging my friends full price after I had told them it would only cost $99

Have any members friends had any problems using these $99 cards (if you have given any away)? Do Hilton not even check the details and just accepted the cards without requesting/checking HPC membership details?
I would give them a "member for a stay card" but I have already given these all away

As I mentioned earlier I have not had a problem using the $99 rate cards in the past. No one has ever requested to see my HPC membership. In fact most times they do not even ask for the $99 rate card.

It may well be the safer option to book the rooms in separate names as opposed to booking 2 rooms in the one name. This may attract less attention as theoretically you are supposed to use one $99 rate card per membership year. But no one checks. Well not for me anyway.

Another option could be to book a room in your name using the $99 rate card and book another room in your name and you should be able to receive 20% discount as you are a HPC member. I have not read the terms and conditions so don't know if there is a restriction on how many rooms one can book and still get a 20% discount.

Thanks John
I like your idea of using my HPC membership for the second room and getting the 20% discount. I will call the property directly for confirmation as I know if I ring HPC they will most likely tell me that rooms must be occupied by HPC members to get the discount

Good news: I found the said voucher for free breakfast or a free house wine. :)

Bad news: It expires 15/05/2010, two weeks too early for Oz Fest #7. Ah cripes! :(

Happy for you to send this way, for me to use at Lake Taupo Hilton :p

Well, I might use it on a stay at a Hilton during Anzac weekend. ;)

Besides, don't you think karens deserves better than the house wine? :D

The last X bottles of wine/sparkling wine I've received through it have actually been rather decent drops

Oh, and a quick search hasn't found the answer, but with the new Mac Bank Hilton Visa instead of HPC, how does one search and use the $99 stay cards under the old HPC?

I think there used to be a rate code that brings up the rates (of course, it only works if the length of the stay is 1 night long).

I still have my $99 card which wasn't taken off me last year in December.....

That's an easy one. Go to the HPC website (redirects to the Mac Bank one), select Reservations, then select the Hilton you want and click 'get my $99 night'.

I've done that with no problems for my night at the Hilton Sydney 3 weeks ago.

You could try rate plan PR44BC as well (If they remove the web links)

I think that may well be the way to go with this one.

Let us know how you get on with the hotel.

Well, I used my Macquarie HPC card at Adelaide Hilton. Checked out up at the Executive Floor. Lisa knew about the card and had no issue about giving me my 20% discount but charging my bill to my (preferred) Amex.

Flashware,

Prompt me next week and I'll send you the email for the front desk manager of the Lake Taupo Hilton. A nice guy who will look after you.

Reminds me, do you fly out of PER today? Wonder if I can catch up before you go :)

Cheers,
D1.

Daniel,

We flew out today.

Sorry we could not catch up as the last few days have been very hectic.

As I posted elsewhere we had to endure sitting in the Chairman's Lounge as the QP was too crowded. ;)
