Hi

We will be travelling Melbourne to Singapore to coughet in September and seek clarification as to whether we can through check our baggage to coughet. We are flying QF to Sin then 3K.

Thank you in advance
Same ticket or separate?

It is seperate bookings. I am thinking we should be able to through check between QF and 3K on the basis that the connecting flight is with in the 24 hour period as we have done this before.

Normally all that is needed is the baggage claim checks and itinerary or booking with reference numbers and to hop along then to the transfer desk where they will issue Boarding pass and we head to the lounge:D

At least hoping that that is still the way it works.

If your bags are not through checked go to the transfer desk, there is a good chance they will take the details and process your checkin without the need to pass immigration. This also applies with HLO and Web checkin, they are more than happy to check your passport etc and print a real boarding pass, they are located near C1 practically beneath the EK lounge location.

I've done this many times, with completely different airlines (different alliances, LCCs, etc). Seems to work brilliantly!

Hmm I have a stupid but semi-related question:

Me and some mates are flying QF SYD-SIN and TT SIN-HKT on Thursday. One of us will have checked luggage.
Do we need to clear everything in Changi T1 (getting off the QF flight) and then re-check in at T2 with TT, then clear customs/immigration etc etc again, or is there a better way? Can we get to "Transfer Lounge E, Terminal 2" to check the bag in for the TT flight? (Transit Information - Changi Airport)

Our connection time is a bit over 2.5 hrs. I figured we'd have to clear everything twice but if there's a faster way I'd be keen to use that?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated, I've never flown TT and not really looking forward to it.

you have to clear immigration get bags and check in again

I asked red roo to clarify the situation weeks ago about the advice to agents I posted above regarding the fact QF should through check to 3K even on separate tickets but to date there has been no answer. I find it absurd that QF are happy to through check to MH in SIN but not to their own subsidiary. TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL!! Where is the incentive to book 3K onwards from SIN?!?!?!?

Here's a conservative scenario:
- QF flight 60 mins late .... arr 17:00
- 45 mins to clear immig and collect bag ... 17:45 (more likely to be <30 mins)
- Walk upstairs to 3K checkin .. 5 mins ... 17:50

Check in closes 40 mins before depature for 3K, ie. 1820. Given this, even if flight is 90mins late, still should be OK.

Good timings and i would do it.

Worse case buy a flight on another airline and keep it up your sleeve.

I did exactly the connection you are doing back in April. I had no checked luggage and on the way in had the option to pay to checkin using the TT "transfer" desk, or not pay BUT clear immigration, checkin and clear immigration again (I begrudgingly paid as the connection was at that time 8hrs and I wasn't sure I could even check in landside 8hours early!). On the way back, I couldn't checkin at the Qantas transfer desk....I HAD to clear immigration....checkin...clear immigration again...something to do with no agreement between QF and TT. It was a very frustrating experience. Onboard both flights was OK, but despite being row 1 I missed paying for food (I wasn't asked!) and by the time they came back....prepare cabin for landing. Wasn't very pleased with the whole TT experience.

I wouldn't be looking forward to it either...TT would be my last choice. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.....

I've done 3K SIN-HKT return last months on separate bookings. I tried requesting check through luggage from AUS and from HKT....neither of the agents would do so. Was told by the AUS agents had to be same ticket. I've had the same response on SIN-BKK 3K route previously also. Once I did manage to get my luggage checked through SYD-MEL-BKK on QF then JQi....but my luggage didn't arrive with me!

I'm doing the same flight again on Sept 18th, which date are you flying?

Hmm - the language on the Changi website (and here: Tigerair) seems to say if your connection is <8hrs then the "price of Tiger connect is built into your ticket"?

But are you saying you did a QF->TT transfer at SIN airside without clearing customs etc? (T1 -> T2)?

Interesting when QF changed the arrangements for through checking in Nov 2010 they issued an FAQ. This states it is allowed, I guess the policy may have changed in the 2.5 years since then.

11. Can you through check from Jetstar to Qantas? The Policy with regard to customer through check and baggage interline between
Qantas and Jetstar services is unchanged from that applicable today, irrespective of
two separate PNRs.

Ah see there was the first problem! Tigerconnect is only between a very limited number of airlines like Tiger, Scoot and precious few others (seems like it is a product in conjunction with Changi airport). When I booked the TT flight I incorrectly read the details of Tigerconnect. Comparing it with the "normal" carriers and transferring between them, the product is worlds apart. Buyer beware there!

And yes, I did not clear customs, but I did not have checkin luggage. The receipt stated Changi Connects (image hopefully attached!). Whatever the charge was called (and realistically it wasn't a "transfer" or "connection" it was simply a checkin airside to a TT flight), it was the easier of the 2 choices (the second being jumping through immigration hoops). Either way being unfamiliar with true LCC myself, it was a very frustrating experience. One that was being played by another poor bloke at the next counter whilst I was paying.

"Through check-in and baggage transfers between Jetstar and Qantas

[h=2]Question[/h]Does Jetstar provide through check-in and baggage transfers to Qantas?[h=2]Answer[/h]Jetstar domestic flights:
No, Jetstar does not transfer bags on domestic services. Connecting flights from Jetstar to Qantas can be booked, but you need to collect your baggage and check-in at the connecting airport. Ensure you leave enough time to connect between flights as neither airline can take responsibility for missed connections.
Jetstar international flights:
In most instances you can through check yourself and your baggage from a Qantas domestic or international flight to a Jetstar international flight. For baggage to be through checked (transferred) your flights must be in the same booking (ie: have the same booking reference number).
Note that you cannot currently check through from QF domestic flights that are connecting with JQ7 from Melbourne to Singapore. If you are booked on this flight, you will have to re-check yourself and your luggage. Ensure you leave enough time to connect between flights as neither airline can take responsibility for missed connections.
On all other Jetstar flights you are responsible for collecting your baggage and re-checking in for your next flight. Through check-in and baggage transfers are not available from Jetstar domestic to Jetstar international flights."

The 2 sentences highlighted, separately are quite opposite answers, however read together quite clearly you cannot check through luggage UNLESS its on the same ticket. The same way the tables I have seen showing baggage check throughs between Qantas and other airlines highlight QF to JQi/3K is possible at certain airports (SIN I think) only on the same ticket (the only on same ticket bit highlighted via the little * or # or ~ etc)

Changi Connect is the way Changi airport documents dealing with getting between Tiger and Scoot flights, and all I can get out of their website is that it's chargeable!

As another data point for this thread —

Had a great experience earlier this month transferring through to Garuda without any hassle at all, despite totally separate PNRs (QF MEL-SIN, GA SIN-CGK). They were able to pick up our bags and check us through to Jakarta at a pinch - all we had to provide was our baggage receipt.

It was a great experience, as much as you could ask for one involving CGK.

With that in mind I would be surprised if the same tools weren't available to Jetstar... Whether they (or any LCC) would be willing to go the extra mile is a different question.

I have been assured now by the Plat line that I WILL be able to have my bags through checked and all I need to do is collect a Boarding pass in Sin.

We are flying out on the 5th September returning on the 14th and cant wait :D

I do hope this eventuates. Checking in in the F area may help, however this is clearly against QF's own guidelines available on their website.

Last month at checkin SYD Int, asked if they check bags through to separate 3K booking from SIN, was politely told no, but to go to the transfer desk in SIN to see if they will, otherwise need to clear immigration. This was at the Y counter not F

I've had luck with JQi in MEL to 3K in SIN. But needed to go to the transit desk in SIN anyway. It seems they can look up your bag location and redirect it to the 3K flight.

I wondered how this works if the bag was already on the carousel. (Maybe you were last off a full A380). Does the bag get re-scanned as it goes behind the wall? Then gets pushed off and sent on its new way to the next flight? And does someone then re-tag it?

I did learn that what is actually readable on the tags, re flight numbers, airports, machine or hand written, doesn't much matter to the automated system. It's the bar code that's important.

Do OLCI for 3k at T-48, will mean a quicker visit to the t desk as APIS etc will already be done.
