Charge for Lounge Access...Would you pay to be someone's guest?

The problem comes after a long trip with many lounge visits and then you go to your local soon afterwards and try and walk away without paying ... Not that I've ever done that :p

Sounds like your friend is a bit tight generally. Bet she charges for a lift she offers in her car too. You know, talks about the cost of petrol / servicing whilst giving you a lift. And possibly prices a lot of things she does for people. Probably has some issues about feeling under appreciated. You know your prior relationship best.

Alternatively, She may have purchased QF lounge membership, so feels that it HAS cost her directly, rather than access as a result of frequent flying.

If that was the case, asking for payment is really outrageous. Nobody forced her to buy lounge access in the first place (if that's the scenario), she chose to, knowing full well the cost; expecting a friend to front up with cash to "cover" their lounge access upon invitation (not that that matters) is truly poor form at the best of times - this goes beyond belief and had it happened to me, they'd would definitely be someone I'd be leaving off my Christmas card list, let alone travelling with again.

We were driving back to airport at the end of a holiday with an hour to go and teens in back getting bored and fractous. I reminded them that their parents could get into the lounge, but the kids would need to be invited. Instantly reformed angels in the back.

Katee, next trip chek the AFF website and see if anyone has a spare guest spot.

I would have gladly paid but that would be the end of the friendship as well....

I would just say 'I'll buy lunch next time' and leave it with that. Take your own experience from this... next time say 'I buy a coffee at Starbucks before paying 27$ for the lounge'.

Paying for an individual lounge visit only makes sense (IMHO):

-On very long stopovers
-For business purposes
-If you want/need a shower
-If you need Ticketing/CS assistance and the lines in the concourse are horrid

In almost every other case I would say slam it by the gate or next coffee shop. ;)

Wow !!

Kind of reminds me of one of our "friends" who was and remains an avid e-bayer. She bought a box of travel /guide books on ebay for, picked them up so she didn't have to pay the postage, sorted through what she wanted to keep, give away and put the remainder on ebay as individual items and made $80. Guess who got a well read Lonely Planet guide for a Christmas present that year ?

Cheap friend, cheap lesson ... put it down to experience Katee.

At the other end of the scale, I was checking into a euro BA lounge some months ago with a co-member colleague. Ahead of us was a group of Englishmen only half of whom had lounge status. And they were one short of sufficient guest privileges. And not riff-raff as Basil Fawlty would say. My colleague offered to sign the last one in. That's the spirit ! They were very appreciative .... although the desk clerk was not so impressed.

Oops, accidentally omitted that my "friend" paid $8 for the whole box of books !!

I wasn't going to reply to this thread but I am .

It's a good experience to learn self control.

Pay 20 bucks, mentally visualise punching the lights out of them, and then walk away happy.

Works for me, may not work for everyone... ;)

(BTW, Admin, is it possible to change spell check to English /english, or Australian / english, as it keeps wanting to change my s's to z's. Or is it me?)

Spell check? What's that?

(BTW, Admin, is it possible to change spell check to English /english, or Australian / english, as it keeps wanting to change my s's to z's. Or is it me?)
... and I thought it was just me. I'll make sure admin sees this..
If you are using Firefox, it has a built in spell checker; it's US-centric. You used to be able to get an Oz dictionary, but it hasn't been updated recently (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/english-australian-dictionary/?src=userprofile).

We do not want to know the details :!:

As per serfty's post, it's most likely your browser. Whichever one you're using, check if there's an AU pack although if using Firefox, as noted already because it's out of date you may not have much luck applying it to newer installations... the only downfall of their new "rapid release" software schedule.

Thanks for that! I use Opera and it was set to US English. All fixed now! :D
