I really like the proportions of the B787-9!
Agreed! It's far better proportioned that the stubby 788.

Anyway, the staff familiarisation flights have been announced via airline secrets exposed on facebook:
Qantas has loaded flights in to the booking system for the 787-9 on limited domestic routes for dates 6/11/2017 to 14/12/2017Melbourne – Perth
MEL - PER QF775 Day x67, QF769 Day 7
PER - MEL QF772 Day x67, QF776 Day 7

Melbourne – Sydney
MEL - SYD QF442 Day 6, QF460 Day x67
SYD - MEL QF439 Day 6, QF497 Day x67

Premium Economy will be sold as Economy. Most booking engines will still show A330 equipment for these flights.
Please remember that these planned 787 flights remains subject to change with engineering, technical and crew changes. There is no 100% guarantee that a 787 will operate these flights

I'll be looking at a SYD-MEL-SYD fly day and hopefully J one way and PE on the return leg.

Well the QF787-9 baby has started to walk (or fly in this case).

She has taken first flight.

It's a pity that they (QF) set PE on their 787s without window views as its over wings.
I did the Air NZ 787 over to AKL and back to SYD and it was great not straining neck to look out windows.

Have done BA 787 (J) and JQ 787 (Y) and am booked LAX-MEL on QF 787 (Y) for January 2018

Very quiet plane :-)

FYI: current schedule lists delivery flight QF7879 (yeah, kinda cute isn't it!) as landing at SYD at 7.10am on Friday October 30, with a 7.45am arrival at Qantas Hangar 96 for the Dreamliner welcome event... so those in the QF F lounge (or indeed near the gate at which QF7879 pulls up) might get a glimpse of it at T1, and anybody at the SYD QF T3 lounges should cop a decent look around 7.40ish as it rolls past.

qf789 on airliners.net has reported a slight delay to the 3rd aircraft, now due for delivery mid-Jan rather than late-Dec

QF 789 Update

Delivery date for VH-ZNC has been pushed back 2 weeks to 15/1/18
VH-ZNB is due to enter final assembly in a week's time (16/10/17)
VH-ZNA is ready for delivery (according to the 787 blog), though wont leave PAE until 17/10/17

Shouldn't impact Perth London commencement on March 24, as it's reliant on the fourth aircraft

But you can hear the flaperon/aileron if you sit a few rows behind the wings and see them in operation.
That little one in the middle works hardest the most.

I was at Boeing factory in Seattle 2 weeks ago and was nice to see a plane in QF colors sitting on the pavement. Would that have been number 1

Yep, we were just behind the wing on an ANZ 787 flight and there was definitely a bit of noise.

Could impact the planned temp reduction of A380 on 93/94 and replacement 3 times/week with 787 in Feb/March.

I mentioned the 787 when I checked in at CBR yesterday afternoon. Some of the CBR ground staff have gone off to become 787 flight attendants.

Just an update on Friday morning's arrival of the first Qantas Boeing 787:
* there’s planned to be a ‘low flyover’ over Sydney Harbour (weather and Air Traffic Control permitting), Qantas is aiming for 7am for this
* typical water canon salute on landing
* we’ll no longer do a temporary park at the international terminal for customs & immigration clearance, then go back through the staff channel and hop back onto the 787-9 to have it taxi around to T3 (this time-consuming process was what we did for previous delivery flights, eg RetroRoo)… instead, QF7879 will taxi straight around to Hangar 96 (we’ll disembark via stairs and SYD will be setting up an on-the-spot customs/immigration post for us).

Just realized I’m booked on a couple of these flights by accident!! Fingers crossed it’s the 787 :D

I can’t wait to see this up close :D

Whats was the reason?
The JAL dreamliner has the seats incredibly tightly packed (from memory its one of their earlier arrangements). Not comfortable at all with no leg room, and I was relieved it was a short flight.
