CheckMyTrip Update - No more desktop access or ticket numbers

This thread has been very quiet for just about 2 months! As I am leaving in 2 weeks on a OWA I thought I'd check CMT. It's nearly up to date except for a time change for a flight a couple of weeks ago so clearly not effectively responding to the quality data it used to have. At first glance, it still seems relatively useless. Looking at all the consents in the settings, they are working towards using it as a monetization tool rather than a service tool. Not too sure that you can have one without the other but I will keep my eye on it during our travels and report back.

I completed stopped using CheckMyTrip around 2 months ago - I suspect others have done the same!
I loaded up my last trip (6 wks in Europe via Indonesia). Several flights. I'd receive random alerts about gate changes but not a lot else useful. It's still pretty coughpy and they've not taken onboard any feedback by the looks of it.

Thanks. I will treat it with the level of confidence it deserves.

Since CMT no longer updates flight times and given that Qantas notifications of changes do not have the original times, I find CMT very useful for working out what has actually changed.
Tripcase was working pretty well for me for all flights (in addtion to TripIt for actual scheduled times).

I’ve given up on CMT and deleted it. I am off on a OWA (+extras) next week. I’ve loaded my flights into TripCase and will see what happens. TripCase has always been good at alerting me to VA delays and disruptions. Not sure if it works as well outside of the Sabre ecosystem…

It works surprisingly well for delays, gate changes and sometimes baggage claim carousel numbers. Certainly not as integrated as VA eg seatmaps can look a bit random.

My trip I just finished had QF, CX, BA and IB and all flights seem to provide some level of real-time info.

I’m back in the US and CMT has been providing alerts and some gate info - so I thought it might have improved but then there’s been just a bunch of random sh$t.

Meanwhile, TripCase is working reasonably well with Amadeus reservations. My current AS trip (which has gone pear shaped) was very useful for departing and arriving gate and then subsequent delay, after delay after delay. What’s useful is I can manually add a flight (eg my replacement DL flight out of SEA…) and track schedule and gate info.

I’m out and about in US currently and loaded my itineraries in CMT, Tripcase, TripIt and Kayak to do my own little comparison.

So far (four sectors) the only app not responding to flight changes and airport notifications is CMT.

Now my dilemma is which app to adopt - the all offer something a little different!

I don’t monitor AwardWallet but I did let it view my bookings (I still use it as my points keeper and have used their Book Your Award quite successfully) and it seems to keep me updated with changes reasonably well - although I have noticed that it doesn’t harvest all my flights. I haven’t done any manual loading to AW this trip - keeping an eye on the other three has been enough!

Good to know. However, I find airports have good display boards for showing departure gates. What I values in CMT was seeing real time ticketing info including ticket numbers, sectors that were on a reservation (so I could see what had dropped off), flight time changes including alerts, seat numbers, equipment (so I could see when equipment had been changed). All of this is gone. When a flight time changes, CMT doggedly shows me the original times. When a booking disappears from my screen, it is usually because CMT has chosen to wipe the data rather than because there's a problem with the flight. I do still find value in being able to quickly look up departure dates to assist with booking hotels, etc. but that's about it.

I've been using TripCase for my current RTW escapade and it's been good with alerts for delays etc across multiple PNRs, but I agree that the real value of the old CMT - especially for QF award bookings - was ticket status. Though RJ and MH websites are decent substitutes for that.

They aren't that decent. You have to load the website, load up your flight details (using the Amadeus reference you retrieved from CMT) and hunt for the details - then repeat for every ticket in your trip. No alerts either - so you have to be proactive in monitoring.

Fine once you’re at the airport but planning connections (an occupational hazard in the US), Tripcase (and some native airline apps) are very handy.

Still surprised that the owners of this app allowed it to be turned from a useful and functional program to a piece of garbage. You'd love to know their thinking on that one.

I had a missed connection today and were rebooked from AS to DL on the onward flight. CMT was alerting me every few minutes that the flight I was supposed to be on was ”On Time”. It had in fact already departed and late at that……

Presumably they thought either (a) there was money to be made by changing the app into something different; or (b) that they could save money by turning it into a product that did not require so much input.

Though I half wonder whether it could be (c) that airline(s) were complaining that CMT made it too easy for customers to see through the lies being spouted by their Mindpearl call centres...

Yep, I was thinking (c) we don't like customers having access to this pertinent, real-time information that allows them to have up-to-date knowledge and achieve better outcomes, so we will kill almost all of the functionality our own app (given it is seemingly made by some part of Amadeus).
