China - never a dull moment!

I recently booked an inter short haul J flt with CZ - NEVER AGAIN - what a comedy of errors - booked on CZ web site I ended up in Y on MU on one sector - ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL - NEVER AGAIN.

That reminded me of something interesting also that came up in my current search - looked at booking BNE-SHA with MU - got various prices and options, with cheapest being 100% on CZ metal. CZ & MU are both in Skyteam, so assume that is where the tie up is from and Code sharing comes into things - and with cancellations and delays - wouldn't surprise me if anyone is bumped off a MU flight and onto CZ metal on a daily basis.

I know what I am in for - just it never will make any delay due to China Air Traffic Control any easier to take on a 14 hour plus mission - both in CAN & SHA - where avoiding a domestic transfer and flying directly into China reduces the odds of a delay to just one flight, and not on two.

Yes the code share is the problem - zero indication until you front up at checkin and once booked you are totally screwed - -NEVER AGAIN.

Oh - I know. My last CZ flight was two months ago, BKK-CAN-SHA - which I had a 6.5 hour delay in CAN for flight to SHA, so total transit blew out from 3 hours to 9.5 hours. I have quite a good idea what I am in for. Last did BNE-PVG with CZ back in 2011 - which was twice then, and after then doing via SIN with overnight stop overs. But then I am going into (well will try) with a fresh mind to see if CZ can blow me off my feet by delivering better than my very low expectations.

Seriously considering grabbing a Footlong Sub in BNE prior to boarding, to eat during the flight instead of what they choose to serve.

Going to smell better than the pork noodle!!

Going to smell better than the pork noodle!!

Yeah, and given I don't eat Pork or Tofu (for personal preferences + Ham/Bacon is different and I do eat) - it greatly limits my diet in China and on China carriers to Chicken or Fish options. Not uncommon for me simply not to eat anything on offer on a mainland Chinese Airline as what they are offering I choose not to eat.

In turn, I limit my chicken and fish intake in Australia and sway towards more beef & lamb .................... and wife served up Roast Chicken for dinner Monday, and Chicken Stir-fry Tuesday........

cough it is hot in Shanghai!

Normally is in Summer - that is normal - and normal for it to remain hot like that until 10-20th August when it starts to come down. The heat normally cranks up around 10th June to get to those temps from 20th June onwards for two months of solid hot days. I recon all the concrete makes it worse, as it retains all the heat during the day and releases it overnight - so it never really gets cool overnight to have a break from the heat.

exactly.

the summer of 2013 was particularly bad though... days on end over well into the 40s with an apparent temperature in the low 50s.

Looks like a nice day there! I'd prefer to be on a bike than sitting in the car for hours on end with the re-circulating AC!

My best business trip was to Vietnam last year, I was there 3.5weeks and ended up hiring my own motorbike to get out to the factories... made it a lot easier than relying on a driver!

Hope you wore a helmet when doing 100ks on a freeway!

Train travel so simple in China - anybody can do it - 3 big bags easy if elevator available - quite manageable if escalators working:

image.jpg

PITA if no escalator or if handle breaks out of shooty old fake Chinese Samsonite bag as this Fokker just did::

One dead bag - going to make arrival into NJ interesting!

I thought you would know better than buy Genuine Chinese CE ;)
I almost always buy Chinese copy luggage - you get a good 2 or 3 yrs out of them - and we have all seen how those lovely baggage handlers delight in destroying any luggage they can - the bag in middle of pic is genuine Samsonite and after its maiden voyage to China then another to Europe it was just so battered.

Bag that broke must be 6 to 8 yrs old - it was indeed retired but last China visit I returned with a bag missing 1 wheel - cheap fake that again failed? Or did it get the 'who gives a cough' treatment from BHs? Could easily be either?
