China travel bans from Late 2022

There is a huge difference between 'cheerleading' and stating that a covid test prior to departure 'is not racist'.

I was going off this…

I support such bans... tbh I personally prefer it is shut FOREVER!

And this

if they want to enter western countries, fair enough but they should be vetted for suspicious activities such as supporting CCP - even as tourists.

Which looks like cheerleading to me.

To me OP statements suggest strong distrust of CCP and its covert offshore operations rather than blatent racial animus per se... 🤔 Whether the restrictions imposed by various countries are politically motivated or based on misinterpretation of the "science", I would think they cant be termed racist as they are not being applied on the basis of a pax's race... Obviously if the restrictions were being applied only to dutch or swiss or japanese or maltese people then that would be racist clearly...am I missing something?

Tit for tat can result in prolonged ongoing conflict unless one party starts employing tit for 2 tats strategy (see below) by not reciprocating i.e. by removing restrictions like Thailand has. Its all game theory...
And, as my esteemed colleague from Footscray, who has 40 years in foreign affairs has always said, you need to be very careful to not get that round the wrong way in delicate diplomatic discourse...😉

Some have tried to say covid testing is racist, which is unfounded.
My only concern is public health to Australia as Covid symptoms does linger much longer after the infection, for me the cough is the killer… as to Mr H, I never cheered on the ban from China as to outright ban them - all I demand is pre travel test to ensure the Australians are as safe as possible - of course we can never keep the variants out but more information we got, the better because China will NEVER give the real data out to the public which we saw from Day 1 in 2020!

No where else to put this now unless it is thought a new thread is needed.
But some excellent work coming out of UQ and the Diamantina Institute. Researching why some get severe Covid and others not much. A big factor is the cellular immunity. Also explains that while the new variants are much better at evading antibodies they have not conquered cellular immunity yet.

  • Upon respiratory viral infection, a robust innate immune response can efficiently drive adaptive immunity whereby virus-specific T cells are activated. Meanwhile, memory T cells nonspecific to the virus can also be primed by proinflammatory cytokines and complement proteins, a process termed ‘bystander activation’.
  • Exaggerated production of proinflammatory cytokines from prolonged infection can skew the balance from virus-specific T-cell activation to nonspecific bystander T-cell activation which can significantly contribute to unresolved inflammation and cause tissue damage and severe disease.
  • Preventive and therapeutic strategies that suppress viral replication or inhibit proinflammatory signals can reinstate the balance of virus-specific activation and bystander activation of T cells. Prevention of T-cell-mediated pathology and tissue damage will support efficient immunity and recovery.
