If the choice is between a conspiracy and a stuff up the stuff up wins every time. What I wonder, if it is true that China sent out faulty face masks to the 'rest of the world', did they do that on purpose as a dastardly political get back or some such, or was it just shoddy manufacture / QC?

Personal communication from former SA Premier and Senator Steele Hall.
I understand the modelling multiplied the actual illness and death rate in China by 5 in best case scenario. That info is beginning to leak out publically now.
Quite likely too. I was being minimalist in saying 5 times. Awful times. And the damn wet markets are open again. What's the point really.I do NOT believe the published figures in China.. as they do tend to hide the real figure.. and I think more accurate figure is 10s of thousands are dead already

Yes I understand it's cultural. I'm not sure that eating bats properly destroyed and cooked is the issue. Otherwise viral issues would have arisen in many other countries. But it's also time to look at live animal markets mixed with other markets where animals are destroyed on the spot. As a practice I find it abhorrent but that's not important. Whatever happened in that market, then subsequent cover up, has pretty much destroyed much of what the world holds important to their culture. Immense loss of life in other countries who did absolutely nothing to create the situation. Broken up families. Destroyed others. Sent many businesses to the wall. My DIL can not attend her grandmothers funeral in the UK. I will not have any contact with my children and grandchild for many months. Others are losing family members. Several members have lost their work. That cannot happen again. The reason those markets still open because in Chinese culture.. they think eating bats and so on are delicacies.. I know because I am a Chinese born person (Proud to be Australian) - before someone bashes me... I DO NOT support such delicacies in any shape or form...

Oh yes. And that's scary. It's actually one reason I "like" Trump at the moment, just for his concern about China. Not much else he sprouts though.I 100% agree with you... but I would not be optimistic enough to say this wont happen again... Please do not forget who runs China now... the CCP and I must say their track record of telling the truth that it would not occur again... I would take that with a grain of salt and would not believe them...
To be honest... according to Beijing... Taiwan is a state in China... they should have NO say in international affairs... trust the CCP and you will be fine... luckily Taiwan did not and is doing well against this virusWell things look even worse for Chinese and the truth. It appears Taiwan warned the WHO that Covid 19 did have human to human spread on December 31st.However as Taiwan is not a member of WHO and on the same day China said there was no evidence of human to human spread the Taiwanese report was ignored.
I think pretty much everyone is throwing the mud at China right now. Except WHO.Just look at who is throwing the mud at China. Is he a credible source?
