Well Happy New Year indeed.
Woke up very early and with a balcony party still going on at 6.30am right across the car park, I decided to go for a run up into the Hollywood Hills. It was quite brisk outside, hovering around 6 degrees celcius. I turned right at Hollywood Blvd and ran as far as it would take me and then turned right to run as far as the lower parts of the hills. Some prime real estate here. The streets were very quiet. No drunks staggering around, just locals out walking their dogs. This is why I like running when I'm on holidays. You get to see things that the tourist trail doesn't take you.
A tough slog up into the hills, but a bit easier coming back down although the old knees aren't what they used to be and they probably tolerate uphill better than downhill these days.
Once back at the apartment it was around 7.30am and the SIL was feling better, but the wife had now contracted the gastro. She was in a really bad way. Vomitting since 2am and could not move.
This was not good. It was striking us down one by one.
We had a few hours and the wife was so bad that I contemplated asking the Air B&B owner if we could stay another night and the kids just continue on to Anaheim. She insisted she was OK. We booked a cab and a rustled up a few plastic bags for the trip just in case a sick bag was required.
The roads were very quiet and it only took 40 minutes from Hollywood Blvd to Ayres Hotel in Anaheim.
It was noon and check in wasn't until 3pm, but we were desperate for them to make at least one room available immediately as the wife was not in any condition to do anything other than lay in bed.
Thankfully one room was available and we all left our luggage there and let her sleep.
We went out to the Orange County Outlets (my uber rating went from 4.80 to 4.81 so it was slowly going in the right direction) which were an OK way to while away a few hours. some lunch at Johnny Rockets and then it was time to head to the hotel to check in.
Rooms were surprisingly roomy and decent.
The hotel wasn't far from Disneyland and there was a shuttle that were could catch the following day.
Wife was not going anywhere tonight and as the hotel is pretty stuck out in the middle of nowhere, the kids weren't that keen either.
The is a pub literally across the road from the hotel called Schmick's and the Honda Centre is next door. What was a man to do? I ventured over to the pub at 4.50pm to discover that the Honda Centre was playing host to the Ducks vs Philadephia NHL game and the place was packed. I almost turned back around, but my old man told me that walking past a pub with the initial intention of walking in is very bad luck.
Turned out the game started at 5pm and it cleared out very quickly.
The Honda Centre.
Enjoyed a few pints and then messaged the kids to see whether wanted takeaway. The pub did takeaway so I took a few pics of the menu and Facebook messaged them.
After grabbing takeway (Miss 16 was well enough to have some calimari and I had some tacos) we fell to sleep wondering whether the missus would be Ok in the morning and whether it would be me or the stepdaughter who would wake up sick.
Bets were placed and the consensus was that neither of us would get sick (positive thinking), but next scenario was that she would get sick tomorrow and I would get sick for the 15-hour Y trip back home.
yay!
