Yes I agree - it was wonderful to travel along with you. When you are in a position to comment, if of course you choose to share, could you please advise how Viking ended up compensating for the disruptions to your cruise? I’m interested because this is one of the cruises I’ve been seriously considering, and your unfortunate experiences have put me off to say the least. Completely u derstand if you prefer not to comment.

Welcome home. What an epic trip you had. Some disappointments along the way, but lots of good memories made.
I have a friend who has just posted her Viking Christmas river cruise on FB . She left Basel on 16 December and didn’t encounter any problems on the river. I’m sad that your experience was not all you had hoped for 🙁

We can plan for lots of things but the weather is something that we have no control over.
I enjoyed travelling along with you on your trip thanks for taking the time and sharing.

Lucky duck. The river opened up on our last day. We know now that Viking boats two days ahead of ours had similar experiences in Strasbourg and the river was closed for at least 7 days so it was a case of Viking started this cruise knowing that it would be done with sailing after two days. They knew we couldnt get from Strasbourg to Basel but also that we couldn’t now (then) get from Koblemz to Strasbourg. So a known event

I’m in negotiations with Viking. 😂

would love to be a fly on the wall listening or reading what you're saying 🤣 😭🤣
I’ve done a lot of research and sorted out timelines. Even using google translate from German using the Deutsche Rhine flood watch sites.

The Americans onboard who’d taken out a particular type of Viking insurance that we can’t get here in Oz, could have cancelled on the spot for a full refund if Viking had actually provided a factual letter on the situation two days prior when the first Rhine river closure warnings were issued by authorities. Do you reckon they are peeved! 😱. I’ve read a couple of their submissions to Viking. 😱😱 But instead they issued a fluffy CYA email. And which Aussies on the cruise didn’t even receive until after we’d boarded as it was the weekend and all correspondence even if urgent has to go through Australia office which was of course closed for the weekend.

Pushka , we are holding a 40% cruise credit from SS after our last cruise.
This amount was offered in a letter from the captain on disembarkation to ALL passengers.
SS followed up within a week with a personal letter from the CEO and a future cruise credit cert valid for 2 years..
We were told onboard that management was made aware we’d missed Rudesheim. Crickets. Of course we also missed Dusseldrof Mannheim Speyer Basel and Breisach. Deafening silence. ACL on its way.

Have I mentioned that in the Police I was head research officer in the legal Department?

Oh. Did I mention that in 7 days we had THREE different captains! Yep.

Your friend wasn’t on Tialfi by any chance? If so then that’s what we were transferred to in Breisach and had to get to at 2.30am on the last morning. A move not done for our convenience at all.

Then , of course, you will have read the passage contract carefully before paying your deposit...;)

Hopefully Viking will make a reasonable offer to settle this. However, for the rest of your trip you seemed to have a very good time and thanks for theTR.
We kept telling ourselves to keep a lid on the angst and to enjoy what we could. That kind of fell apart when we met with fellow passengers after each briefing meeting. But then sleep and another day dawns.

It is good to have a good TA as well when it comes to cruising. On 2 occasions she has been able to get significantly more than was offered which in one of the cases was zero.

Welcome home and once again great reading along. Although I do confess at times I was wondering what will go wrong next.
