Citi cards - major changes

Silly question , the signature card I got fee free for life is 0.75 VA per $. Isn't this a very good rate for a VISA fee free? Or am I wrong? :)

^ You're wrong!
It's 0.5 or less

Are you sure?

That is not what the T&Cs say.

There are better earning rates available on certain cards in certain situations (Amex Explorer etc etc) but for a fee free cc (if lucky enough) then it does offer value where Amex use is surcharged

Latest T&Cs for fee-free for life Citi Platinum Signature have the following ratios...

2 Rewards Points per $1 for selected purchases made and booked directly from a range of major restaurants and restaurant chains, major hotel chains and flights directly booked with major airlines and international spend

1.5 Rewards points per $1 for selected purchases made at major petrol outlets, major supermarkets and major national retailers

1 Reward Point per $1 spent everywhere else on Eligible Transactions

So as in the case where you bulk buy supermarket egcs and convert into other gcs then:

Earn rate = 1.5 Citi Reward points per dollar spent (other than Govt related) and convert at 2 CR = 1 VFF become 0.75 VFF per dollar spent

or if spent on major airlines related or dining = 1 VFF per $1 spent

Point Hacks has a useful summary (which I unashamedly C&P).

Thanks. I think for me since I have the Amex play edge my supermarket and fuel goes to the Amex. So effectively for my Citi signature usage will be 0.5 VFF per $. Still ok for a fee free card I suppose.

Ram can't argue with your logic and definitely not going against points hack!

my non amex spend is still quite high, so switched all that spending to the st george amplify card (under the wife's name).
got the fee free signature only for the free priority pass.

now we both get free lounge access if not travelling J, twice a year :D

Hi All,

How do you know which are major restaurants/chains to get the 2 reward points per dollar with the citi signature card?

And what are considered major national retailers?

Thanks,
K.

I got rid of my free for life Citi.

If you want to use Citi, then assuming you first use an Amex when you can most people would be better off churning for Citis with good sig-ns.

With Amex/PayPal, qualifying spend on VIS/MCs that I am churning, VISA1 bought at 3MRs.

Plus any overseas CC spend goes on my ANZ Traveller at present due to it having no international fees.

After that and domestic spend bill goes on the StGeorge.

So I actually have no spare spend anyway.

You don't and they can't/won't tell you either. It's the most wishy-washy vague condition by design, so they can deny/adjust/change the points they give you (or don't give you) totally at their will and you have no evidence of any kind to argue. It's a totally one-sided arrangement where they have all the power and control and you have none.

Just deal with it by assuming you'll never earn bonus points in the upper two tiers and accept that you'll only ever see points earn at the 1/1 rate.

Thanks. Would be great if anyone had any experience with the bonus points post where they got it from etc eg bigw Kmart etc

Does anyone know if Citi is actually participating in Comprehensive Credit Reporting yet?

Doesn’t seem to be yet. CCR only knows about my NAB card which I haven’t used in ages. No sign of the others yet. My score has been increasing last few months though am assuming will reverse itself in time.

Amex was contributing about a year ago but since stopped reporting.

There's definitely something happening of late in the last two months at least. My credit rating figure has been stuck at 686 completely stagnant for the last 3 years never moving. Then all of a sudden with no changes initiated by me at all, it suddenly jumped up to 726 in March and now again in April it's jumped again up to 816 out of 1000. All with no changes, no inquiries, applications, credit limit changes, nothing. I've gone from GOOD, through VERY GOOD and into EXCELLENT to be in the top 10% according to the Credit Savvy website thingo, all by doing absolutely nothing!

Where do I get my elephant stamp from?

Having said that, only HSBC seems to be known to Experian so far, and that means only two of my six credit cards. There is nothing listed at all from Amex, Citibank nor Latitude Financial (28° MasterCard) so far.

I couldn't find mention of this elsewhere using the search function: Do payments through Australia Post Postbillpay using any Citibank-issued card (including Coles, Virgin, or Qantas cards) get treated as payments to a government agency and therefore non-point-earning? (Asking because transactions with Australia Post itself using Citi cards don't usually earn points.)
