Card Offers Citi Prestige Credit Card Offer: 250,000 Citi Rewards Points

Has anyone tried and or successfully had their $700 annual fee halved or other lately. Mine is due as of my new statement received this month. I just phoned citi and was flatly told that the citi prestige would not be discounted and there are other citi cards with lower fees if I was interested. I mentioned the ending of Diners and the current economic climate but my contact was not interested one little bit.
Generally it's the retention team you negotiate with rather the generic customer service reps. What I typically do with most CCs is

(a) phone regular customer service and request AF reduction/waiver. If they say no (which 99% of the time they will) then
(b) request to cancel card. This will typically lead to you being transferred to another team (typically the retention team)
(c) when asked why you want to close, say "AF is too high" or something along those lines
(d) see what they offer you or request to have AF reduced/waived and you'll keep account open.

Even then sometimes they wont offer and you'll need to hang up and call again cos most of the time it does come down to the individual rep and how desperate they are to keep you. But most importantly, you genuinely have to be prepared to shut the card down if all else fails.

I don't want to close the account as I have used the priority psss lounge at least six times ( x2) in Europe and Africa in the last 12 months for $350 plus 300000 points. Probably won't use the lounge much over the next 12 months but going to Europe and Africa again in 2026 so will get a lot of use again as well as the 1.2 kf points for overseas spend, balanced out by 3.4% cost I know. Also .8 kf points at Major Retailers like bunnings and aldi etc not bad. I use my amex plat edge for woolies etc

Would you be best to cancel now and rejoin in 2026? Even if you have to pay the full annual fee in 2026 that would be the same as paying two half fees for 2025 and 2026. Plus, rejoining will get you a new sign-up bonus.

Yes would be a better idea but getting approval for SMSF person is like winning the lotto these days.Even though no debt and plenty of income and assets.

And that's fair, but then from Citi's perspective, you obviously value the card and what it offers to some extent. Citi has essentially offered you all that stuff you've listed and have said the price for all of those offerings if $700 every year. Clearly you think that price is too much for what the card offers, hence you are looking for a reduction/waiver. But if you're still willing to keep the card open regardless of any AF discounts, then you've tacitly revealed to Citi that you do actually think $700 is a reasonable enough price to pay for it and that you're still willing to pay for it, thereby giving them an upper hand in the negotiation which means they're far less likely to give you any discount.

That's why I said, you genuinely have to be prepared to shut the card down in order to increase the changes of getting a discount or waiver.

Have used the card for 10 visits in the past 12 months. However, on quite a few occasions I already had access due to Amex or flying business class. I do find that the restaurant food is better than the lounge offerings and $72 is fairly generous, even at airport prices!
Renewal due next week - will cancel unless I get $175

Mate if you get it down to $175 I'll be very bloody impressed! They dropped it to half price for me last time I renewed but it was hard work and I was told it would only be a once off.

Priority Pass questions:
  • If I want to use Bar Pulpo to get $36 credit, how do I do that?
    • Do I show a PP card when ordering?
    • Do I get a bill and have to pay it?
  • If I want to bring a guest into a lounge, do they have to be on the same flight?
    • is this the same for Bar Pulpo?
  • Is there anything to stop me making multiple visits to the same lounge (or to Bar Pulpo) on the same day?

- You roll up to the counter and say something along the lines of 'I'd like to pay/use priority pass credit'. They have a special machine and will scan your bar code that will use your credit. Any additional balance you pay for like normal.

- No, I don't believe so

- No

Hi guys,

For a long layover in BKK, will I be able to use the Citi prestige card for lounge access for myself, my wife, and our three young kids (aged 2,4, and 6) ?

Also which priority pass lounge in BKK is best ?

Cheers

yes and no, you can't get into the same lounge.

What i did is went to one lounge and asked if my wife and 1 child could enter instead of me which they said yes. I then took my other child and went to a different lounge.

Also your 2 year old should not count as a guest but check each lounges requirements.

So my wife would have her additional card on her

Maybe she can enter first with one child and show her card

Then me with the other child ?

Then at least we could all be in the same lounge ?

Are you talking additional citi card or priority psss card as you won't get in with your citi card. Hopefully you will all be tired and hungary after all this toing and froing

As Spud60 said it won't work as you use your priority pass membership not the credit card itself. there are so many Priority pass lounges in Bangkok you can find 2 close together.

Just checking, I still can't see any exclusion period - cancelled in January and thinking about applying again. That said, am also considering the Premier too given the reduction in annual fee. Given that I don;t keep the card for over a year, how much is 100000 KF points worth?

Yes I managed to get a $250 credit a few month ago after paying the full annual fee. I had to escalate it to the retention team/higher up, stating I wasn't happy with the change of benefits.

I think it may be easier to get a reduced annual fee now, with the announcement of Citi Pay all to cease after Jan 2025.

I'm on the second year membership. Initially told no and then got it escalated, was offered 20k points or $250 off the AF. I'll go ahead and cancel the card as can't justify it. Even if could just cancel and re-apply and get 250k points with the current promotional offer + 700 fee.

When I asked they couldn't even confirm refunding the $700 fee given it's already posted. Has anyone had luck getting the fee refunded? It only posted last week.
