Citibank 70,000 QFF points $149 annual fee first year 0% BT for 6 months

Has anyone looked in detail at the definition of "eligible" payments. I believe it excludes payments to Government and the ATO and that this could also exclude rates payments and payments to Government owned authorities like Sydney Water. It also excludes payment of insurance premiums - car, CTP, house and contents and probably also health insurance premiums. So what's left? Supermarket shopping, petrol and purchases from places like Harvey Norman. So if you don't have any large expenses in the latter categories coming up, it may be difficult to spend $3000 in three months, unless you have a big family. Any comments

Hi all, my 70,000 points posted in my 2nd month after meeting the spend limit. No real problems on that front.

However, I did discover something interesting. I took out the 15k credit limit and when I called to active the card I was offered a balance transfer or "convenience cheque" up to 80% of the value for 4 months. I asked several times and was informed there was no upfront charge for this and no interest for 4 months. So I decided to take $10,000 as a convenience cheque.

In month one I spent ~3k on retail purchases so the balance was $13k which I paid off the 3k of retail purchased for. Now on my statement for the second month I have two whacks of interest charges. I called up tonight and the CSR advised that when you pay back the money for retail purchases it comes off the balance transfer amount or convenience cheque amount first and not the retail spending. He acknowledged that I was not probably not told about this when I took the convenience cheque and out of good will refunded the interest. He says Citibank's advice is to either take the balance transfer/convenience cheque and do not make retail purchases - or to make retail purchases for the points offers but not both.

I told him I was not pleased because I spoke to the CSR specifically about my application being eligible for the 70,000 QFF points and he replayed back the minimum spend requirements and that this had to be on top of the convenience cheque. Basically he knew I was going to make the retail purchases above the $10,000 to get the bonus points within the convenience cheque interest free period.

Has anyone else had this experience? Was it a rookie error or a set up by Citibank?

Got rejected :( Pretty upset as the 70k bonus points are so easy to get!
They didn't give a reason. They called to ask about my income and if I had anymore, as the minimum card limit was 15k, and they have given me 11.5k, and obviously that wasn't enough to pass the 15k min card limit.

It was weird though, other banks ask you about "other assets" such as investment accounts from what I can tell and I've felt this has always helped me (due to the fact I have a number of CCs with 15k limits so when they ask what's your current CC limit mine's always above 30k/month..)

Hopefully it doesn't hit my CC rating too hard as I'll try for another banks offer soon.

I've just been approved with a $27500 limit. I'm sure they have added a zero by error. Hope it doesn't hurt other applications.

Surely it must impact your other application. You always need to provide the current limits for the cards that you have active.

What's the minimum limit that can be set for this card whilst still getting the 70,000 points?

Thanks. Not sure that I want that big a hit on my credit score right now.

Oh great, this I didnt know, I was planning on paying rates and power with this. I figured BPay was out but going through their websites and paying with a CC surely would count.

Just wanted to update everyone on this. Spoke to Citibank this morning and government agencies (ATO etc...) are not included. Paying Power, Water etc... via credit card is included.

I haven't gone through the full application process yet, but when I go through the Qantas Points site and follow the links from this Citibank card offer when comparing credit cards I can get through to the application that way. The link is a little different so give this one a try - Qantas

Well I applied and was rejected which marks the first time I have had a credit application declined. Im curious because I was conditionally approved (when I applied) and exceeded all requirements by a signifigant margin, have a good credit score and never pay intrest. Are citibank stricter than other CC issuers?

I just had received 70k points in my Qantas account on the same day as my first statement cycle after spending 3k+ on the first month. I put through council rates, water rates and strata payment and all of these counts as eligible spend.

Exact same boat as you. Citi said my max card limit they'd give me was $11,500 and the card had a min limit of 15k so wouldn't give me the card. I asked them could I give them my investment portfolio details which all other banks seem to ask for and they said no.

Just yesterday I applied for the HSBC credit card and was approved on the spot and their online form even tells you that they're sending the card out. Their form asked for investment portfolio details.

Super annoyed about Citi, but will get the 60k points with HSBC now.

With the Priority Pass membership, does anyone know if membership continues post cancelling card? I intend to close this card before renewal and have no immediate need for the PP. Hoping to join PP prior to cancelling card, but still get 12 months PP membership.
