Citibank Plus - No Fee No Overseas Transaction Fee Account

Hi. Any experience of using this card to withdraw cash in Japan?

I understand that many ATMs there don't work with overseas cards, but some do accept Visa (& Mastercard).

TIA.

Yep it works fine in all 7 Eleven ATM's and Post Office ATM's as of last week. Also most airports have a Citibank ATM which you can use on arrival. Japan is still very much a cash society and even though more and more places are accepting credit cards they seem to take a long time processing them at the till!

Did you have any ATM fees using the ones at the 7 Elevens/Post offices?
Going to japan later in the year, and would be interested to know.

No. No ATM fees charged by any that I used. Note Mr_Orange is right, no other ATM's will accept international cards other than these and the aforementioned Citibank ones.

Not quite right. If you just keep trying, occasionally you get a hit!

Unless the Post ATMs are in random places, as there's an ATM in the Odaiba shops and one in Ikspiara that works with foreign cards.

I got back from Japan last week and used both Citibank and Japan Post Bank ATMs.
Just be aware that the Post Bank ATMs have limited hours and are not open 24 hours.

There's a Citibank ATM just outside the arrivals area at Narita Airport - perfect for the start of your holiday.

I found that ATMs were not that hard to come by in Tokyo, and used a funky one at Narita that had numbers 0-9 in sequential order rather than keypad. However, I was vigilant in using my Bankwrst Platinum credit card and avoiding cash. Most supermarkets and touristy places credit, so everything was sweet, other than transactions taking three weeks to appear.

Citibank card at ATMs overseas worked beautifully for us. Just one word of advice: Keep to the strict AUD1000 daily limit and don't visit an ATM multiple times in 1 day. It's also important to have a back up - a contingency plan - in case the card is misplaced or rendered unusable.

We were in the woolly back blocks of Poland. Stupidly, I went to the ATM 3 times in one day and went over the AUD1000 limit in total, The last ATM gobbled up the card at 9pm obviously due to their rules around fraudulent use and procedural checks. Luckily the ATM was at a branch of Citibank and we were able to physically retrieve the card the next morning. However, since Citibank in Poland has very little relationship to Citibank in Australia, they were not able to reinstate the card. I asked for holes to be punched into the magnetic strip and only had a new card issued once back in Australia. It was far too much of a hassle to organise a new card from overseas.

Hi all, I find that using an amex prepaid credit card in the states is free when you use their affiliated ATM's, though you will pay through the nose if using back here in Oz, I made this mistake wanting to use the excess funds when we arrived home. They don't charge you any fees to leave the money there and it never expires, although you need to renew your card when that expires. I have found that the others charge yearly fees and rates even though they are prepaid, the worst for this is the new Virgin card that is linked to frequent flyers. I have had many a vigorous discussion with them over this as they advertise that there are no fees for certain things, basically untrue. I find the Amex prepaid best for me for frequent trips to the US and an Australia Post prepaid visa for Europe. Safe Travels all

Has anyone read the 70 page booklet that comes with this card ?

I flipped through it, but don't remember anything standout in terms of gotcha's, aside from the note that non-citibank atms may still charge a fee at the discretion of the bank the atm belongs to.
