Citibank Plus - No Fee No Overseas Transaction Fee Account

I have some money on this card but I think it it is OK w' regard to inactivity. But, I want to take the cash out without spending it (as no points). How do I get my money 'back?

10.6 Inactive Accounts in debit or with a nil balance. If your Account has not been operated on by depositor withdrawal for a period of at least 6 months, andyour Account is either in debit (apart from a securedoverdraft) or has a nil balance, Citibank may close yourAccount without any prior written notice to you.

Can't you transfer it to another bank account? Or withdraw it from an ATM?

I have had no issue doing online transfers back to my main debit card account held with another bank (ANZ).

Just a direct debit ... BSB and Account number ... (it is the same manner I make deposits before travel - just the reverse).

I might be missing the point, but that clause presumably doesn't apply since your account sounds like it's in credit - i.e. since there's money in it. You can leave this account open with some balance in it and it shouldn't be closed unilaterally by the bank.

If there is money in the account, they won't close it. But Citibank do sometimes deactivate accounts if they are not used for six months, and it can take a phone call to make it work again.

Yep, $1 should do it.

You could try to do a transfer but i have had difficulty withdrawing cash from the atm with 6months inactivity
you have to ring them up to reactivate the card

My Citibank Plus account was never deactivated by Citibank even though it has no money and I haven't used it for more than a year. However I do have a fee free Signature credit card that I use regularly. I think that keeps my Citi Plus account active all these years.

I've had emails re deactivation - simple solution is to direct debit a dollar ... then direct debit it back a day later.

I received an email today telling me that my replacement debit card will be a Mastercard instead of VISA. I wonder if this will have much impact on the exchange rate used for overseas ATM withdrawals...?

You beat me to it Mr_O, I also received it just now.

spacebar

I also got the email - will be interesting to see. Funny I've had this card for a few years and only started using it the last couple of months and will get a hammering in Europe/US over the Christmas break!

It will have a small impact as Visa and Mastercard set their rates independently, and slightly differently. In my experience, though, the Mastercard rate has tended to be slighlty more favourable, although the difference is usually small.

There's a bit of confusion around whether the card will be fee free for withdrawals.

From Citi Debit MasterCard Frequently Asked Questions Citi Australia.

Will there be additional charges as a result of this change?

No. The fees and charges for your account remain the same.

But....
International Transaction Fee 2.50%
Charged for all overseas ATM and electronic point-of-sale transactions made in a foreign currency using your Citi
Visa Debit / Citi Debit Card. For Citi Visa Debit transactions, this amount includes a 1% service and assessment fee
payable by Citibank to Visa. This fee will be charged as a percentage of your withdrawal amount.

All that text is there now. The table has this in the heading "Excludes Citibank Plus Transaction and Citibank Online Saver Accout".

Aside from changing the Visa text to something more generic, that don't seem to be removing the exclusion.
