Citibank Plus - No Fee No Overseas Transaction Fee Account

Arr at Zqn last Friday. ..tried to withdraw from ANZ atm at airport. .NZD3 fee!! Cancelled and used atm next to it (not sure which bank )..no atm fee :)

Ouch! Just got stung 3,500 CLP (A$7) for using a Citibank ATM in Santiago! Went initially to some other ATMs over a few days and saw a fee being charged, so didn't proceed. Then, finally found a Banco Edwards ATM (owned by Citibank and had the blue Citi logos) and shocked to see the fee. I absolutely needed cash by this time, so I went ahead.

I haven't gone through this thread in a while, but is this a known 'thing' in Chile (ie maybe a government mandated fee for overseas cards)?

No personal experience but I'd certainly complain on a Citi ATM.

A quick internet search shows 2500-5000 CLP is standard for foreign cards.

A recent FT post says
"Banco Security ATMs are the only ones now that do not charge a Chile-side Fee"

Thanks. Do you mean 'foreign' as in a non Citibank card, or a non Chilean card?

Edit: I just did the search myself. Banco Edwards I did notice was 'Redbanc', so prime for the fee.

Was meaning it in the non-Chilean/non-ATM owner context.. Wasn't specifically searching for Citi (Wells Fargo has a similar card in the US)

This seems to be happening more and more with a fee for the providers of the ATM's. Pity the dude from oz who uses a card from on of the 'big 4'.

Im pretty sure if you call Citi about that $7 fee from there machine they will reverse it, I am talking about the Plus debit account Citi card. Be firm but polite. Works for me

Just tried Bankwest World cc and achieved 0.5215 on the British pound so that is very close to the real exchange rate in the live markets. Now that is impressive when it was for a $70 dinner at Carluccios in London so 70 Qantas points.

I will use a Bankwest Platinum before 1pm to see if the exchange rate holds all day for both cards seeing London is 11 hours behind Sydney. Bankwest is a business name and is a division of CBA which is Sydney based.
The points will be at 0.75 rate but it is just a tester seeing the World card from Bankwest is difficult to obtain.

I've always been happy with the rate I have achieved with BW World. Occasionally, when the transaction moves from authorisation to confirmed the exchnage rate improves. Although, I have seen it get worse too.

Re: Citibank Everyday Plus - Free overseas ATM withdrawals!

Withdrew cash in the Cook Islands from a BSP (Bank South Pacific) ATM and got whacked with an ATM charge of NZD5.50. No cahrge from Citi though.

The only alternative was an ANZ machine which I didn't know existed until it was too late. That might have been better. Westpac (and all Amex card services) disappeared from the Cook Islands bank in June 2015.

ANZ are pretty good at fee gouging overseas, I doubt it would have been cheaper. Definitely pricey in Fiji.

In fact, if my memory serves, ANZ may have the only bank owned machines in all of SIN that try to charge a fee...

Re: Citibank Everyday Plus - Free overseas ATM withdrawals!

I think BSP would have been the better deal. Last time I was in PNG, ANZ charged me PGK35 for withdrawing cash at their ATMs (about $A15 at the time). Can't see them being any better in the Cook Islands; in fact, ANZ is the last bank I would go to in the Pacific.

Glad to know I made the right choice. Thanks.

I needed some XPF yesterday and could only find one ATM at the PPT terminal. It was owned by La Banque Socredo and I fully expected a fee.
Imagine my surprise when the transaction produced the cash in 30 seconds and no fee

I have added a few new entries to the spreadsheet I have seen referenced on a page somewhere in this thread. For those who haven't discovered it yet, I will just let you know that there are no fees with Otto (Finland) or SEB / Swedbank (Estonia).

digging up a old thread.

I have read a few other threads on here about bad experiences with Citi when it comes to fraud and the resolution. I have been using this card on my many travels around the world without issues and always get great exchange rates . I am currently based in Berlin long term and use this card a bit for online transactions - German banks don’t have a Visa- MC debit card.

I woke to a missed call on the 2nd of August, upon investigation I found it was from Citibank. I then logged onto my account to see that over 1200AUD had been taken via various cash transactions in the Caribbean. I called them straight away to find my account had already been blocked. I had already advised them that I am in Germany, so they knew it was fraud immediately. On the call they advised it could be up to 6 weeks for the funds to be returned to me, I advised that this was not a good situation for me and asked if this could be resolved faster. Fast forward to the 11[SUP]th[/SUP] August….. I have now received a new card and the funds have been returned to my account.

I know many on here have had some bad experiences with Citi, but I could not be happier with the resolution of my issue especially the time taken when I am on the other side of the world.

That's great n

I have some money on this card but I think it it is OK w' regard to inactivity. But, I want to take the cash out without spending it (as no points). How do I get my money 'back?

10.6 Inactive Accounts in debit or with a nil balance. If your Account has not been operated on by depositor withdrawal for a period of at least 6 months, andyour Account is either in debit (apart from a securedoverdraft) or has a nil balance, Citibank may close yourAccount without any prior written notice to you.
