Coles gift card offers

I've always found the $7 activation fee makes these unattractive; even if you use the 2,000 points to get $20 off your shopping, you're only $3 in front. OTOH, 2,000 points for $7 spend works out to 143 VA points per $. Plus, I need to spend $4,000 on my new Amex card so I may just bite on this occasion and use them to pay my rates.
It's $10 for 2000 points. And buy the $100 cards that only have the $5 fee for a slightly improved profit margin.

Although the profit margin is small, I find they always sell out.

I've occasionally bitten at the $250 at this level. I mainly use then at the big Canberra store (my bills are enough to make using a higher-value GC useful but not so high that the GCs are a drop in the ocean).

If I compare the $3 profit+debit card surcharge to using Snip/YakPay etc, I'm still a fair bit ahead (and I get the full 3 Amex MR/$ with Platinum Edge as bought at supermarket)

Tend to agree on the unattractive though it is a good way to get extra Amex points (e.g. Platinum Edge supermarket spend) for places that don't take Amex. Probably close to another cent in vale, not much but hey all points count for most of us.

Agreed and that's a good point about the slightly better return on the $100 cards. However, I need to spend $4,000 on my new Amex card so I may go for the larger demoniation on this occasion.

When do they charge the activation fee - is that taken off before you use it?

Bought the cards on Wed morning, generally the bonus points post Thu night. That didn’t happen, only the regular points are showing.

Just got mine also.
Me too, in last hour. Odd time.
Haven't transferred to velocity yet.

Amazing that EDR transfer to Qantas instantly but FB take literally days.

Might pop into Coles tomorrow to see if any left. $100 cards that is.

FB backend is "carp" except they manage to immediately adjust FB$ on the (still physical) card spend.

About the only positive thing is FB$ can be used like an eftpos card ie redeem any amount rather than $10 increments.

And I have to update another hour later those FB gift card bonus points have now dropped into my velocity account.

I'm sure this hasn't happened before as follow up speed.
