But I found it difficult to use up the small balance I had on one. The restaurant had a card surcharge so some math was needed while standing at the register doing a split transaction.

i've just started using these and this was one of the issues i was a little bit worried about. it sounds like easiest option for those last few remaining dollars or cents is to use it at a large fast food chain, as they seem to accept split payment and don't have surcharge. of course this necessitates buying something form a large fast food chain, which might not be ideal!

Worthwhile checking exactly which restaurants still accept the card. Given one as a gift last Xmas and found most locations were at the top of the scale for menu price, predominantly in the CBD and only 2 (ex-CBD) that would see us out for under $150 without alcohol.

If its for a restaurant you frequent then go for it, otherwise buyer beware.

if i'm not mistaken, the card on discount this week is one that can be used at any terminal with the appropriate merchant code, rather than specific restaurants. there is another type of card (name escapes me right now) that is only accepted at named restaurants, which may be the one you're referring to.

Just dug out that card and it is called the "Gourmet Restaurant" gift card - very limited list of who (still) accepts it.

Rang a couple shown on the website to double check (opening hours etc) and they said they no longer take it.

Had a drama at my local Coles when purchasing TCN teens cards. Intended to buy 10x $50 cards across two flybuys accounts. The mole manning the self serves went off on a rant about scams and scammers but I tried to explain one account is mine and the other my brother’s and mentioned the catalog mentions 5x per account not per person. She took the 5 off me and said she’d keep an eye out if I returned for the other 5. Honestly I love collecting flybuys as I find them so much easier to accumulate over WWR and I always convert to velocity. Never had such paranoid staff at Woolies.
