The 30 Flybuys points for bringing my own bags over the weekend showed up this morning.

Adults. But really the issue is that we haven’t done away with plastic bags at all; we just have to pay for them now.

How is it "adult" to just docilely accept something which has no benefit but plenty of costs (noting your second sentence)?

Fair point but I have more significant things to rail about. It’s virtue signalling at its best. And there’s a lot of that around.

It was sent out in internal comms (WoW) on Friday morning. Started Saturday. When you give the checkout operator bags, they are to scan a barcode and then type in the amount of bags you have (up to 30). If you don't have enough bags for the shop, they are to give additional 15c bags at no cost.

Of course the entire thing is a ploy to increase profits. Just look at how they have dealt with the online side of the bag issue.
Prior to the removal of so called "single use" bags (which I have always reused as shopping bags), in the states that had already banned them, they used a different free bag for online, as they weren't allowed to charge an unknown amount for bags (as the amount of bags needed would be unknown at the time the order was placed), that met the requirements to avoid the ban.
Now they have removed those bags are are charging $1 per order for bags, with no way to avoid the charge, even if you already have bags you would have used and don't need/want more.
Woolworths only comment about this was to pay the $1 and bring bags back the next time for recycling in Woolworths "Redcycle" program - which Woolworths makes money out of.

ABC had a programme about RedCycle via Coles. They put GPS trackers into the bins and tracked them. Suffice it to say they didn't go to a recycling centre!

There were signs about the bonus bag points but not how to activate it. It turned out that the staff member had to scan a special barcode
Thats ridiculous. Albeit at 2 points a bag it's literally nothing anyway.

My local (a metro) has about 20 selfserve outlets (with only one staff supervising) to about 1 max 2 normal checkouts

Today I unwrapped 2 mattresses from Ikea. The amount of plastic used was ridiculous. We have to do something about this.

The plastic sent to redcycle is used to make things like road surfacing.

The show being referred to, tracked plastic being so deposited in Redcycle (or similar) and found it being dumped in landfill.

Yeah, but, that isn't what happens.

It is in the UK, but I know AUS is back in the dark ages really as a society. Positively Jurassic here in all aspects. But but it's our responsibility to do better for our future.

Have just received an email from Flybuys. It seems the bonus points for bags offer has been extended to 31 July.

"Collect 30 BONUS POINTS when you bring your own bags
Offer ends Tue 31 July 2018. Excludes Coles online. Offer available once per flybuys account, per day. See full terms and conditions*"

Next week's bag features Jonathon Thurston.

Topped up my Opal at Coles yesterday and still received the 30 points for bringing my own bag even though I was bagless.

Is this only in the Eastern states who are having little hissy fits or do the SA contingent get on the band wagon as well
