The show being referred to, tracked plastic being so deposited in Redcycle (or similar) and found it being dumped in landfill.

That is egregious if it was the norm. The other thing is that the collection receptacles are small - not at all uncommon to see staff throwing the overflow into regular bins.

do the SA contingent get on the band wagon as well
Some did, but since it was nealy a decade ago the complaints have faded from memory.

I'll say it again, the main reason Coles and Woolworths are still providing free bags is $$$; customers are not buying as much without them.

The combined population of greater Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane is around 12.4 Million, Adelaide's is 1.3 Million, so the effect on revenue is nearly 10 times greater.

Woolworths is not providing free plastic bags right?

Coles is just confusing the public by still offering free plastic bags. Good promotion anyway on offering 15 cents per day. Encourages me to buy something from Coles every day.

There's no confusion.

But yes, Coles is now encouraging more frequent visits.

Is this only in the Eastern states who are having little hissy fits or do the SA contingent get on the band wagon as well
All states and territories other then TAS, as Tasmania doesn't have the Woolworths Rewards program. TAS has the "Frequent Shopper Club", which is a reward program started by one of the small chains Woolworths took over. Part of the contract was that if Woolworths removed the F$C, the old owners could take back the stores.
Tasmania was first meant to get rewards for bring back bags into the F$C when info about the offer was first sent out to stores. It was then removed a few hours later when more details were sent out.

Woolworths has 15c and 99c bags. Also different bags for online (both pickup and delivery) at $1/order.
For the rest of the year, while this 2 points per bag offer is around, you are meant to get free 15c bags if the bags you have brought with you are not enough for that shop. eg, if you bring 3 bags, but you need 6, you are meant to get 6 points (2x3) + 3 free bags.

When I went to Woolworths yesterday, the girl asked me if I had a card, and then supposedly credited my account with two points. When I checked the docket today, there was one point put on and taken off again immediately. Not sure how that works??

One point, or one cent?

My last receipt has $0.01 credit per bag I brought plus points for bringing a bag to my rewards account at Woolworths

Some people are driven by free points, and some by free plastic bags :)
And some people are driven by not having to pay for something that should be free.

And I wouldn't throw away $10 on a gourmet tuna sandwich that is worth at best $1.10 or $18 on smashed avo on toast that is not worth more than $3.20 at best. And I hate that abbreviation.

And people should stop judging what others feel is important. None of their business.

Popped into Woolies, had to returned to my car for bags, the check out person said extra points for bringing your bags and you bought 10 bags (only used 2) so registered it as 10 bags. Havent checked my account for points yet.

She also said they are giving away free bags until the end of the year . End of the year? Hope I heard that wrong because whinging 2.0 in January heat will lead to meltdowns.

Check out person also said the whinging has been much less the last week or so - its becoming peoples new normal.

Just checked and I got 30 Flybuys for bringing my own bag in Coles Burnside yesterday - yay - that will make a difference to my holiday FF stash :D

It was sent out in internal comms (WoW) on Friday morning. Started Saturday. When you give the checkout operator bags, they are to scan a barcode and then type in the amount of bags you have (up to 30). If you don't have enough bags for the shop, they are to give additional 15c bags at no cost.

Of course the entire thing is a ploy to increase profits. Just look at how they have dealt with the online side of the bag issue.
Prior to the removal of so called "single use" bags (which I have always reused as shopping bags), in the states that had already banned them, they used a different free bag for online, as they weren't allowed to charge an unknown amount for bags (as the amount of bags needed would be unknown at the time the order was placed), that met the requirements to avoid the ban.
Now they have removed those bags are are charging $1 per order for bags, with no way to avoid the charge, even if you already have bags you would have used and don't need/want more.
Woolworths only comment about this was to pay the $1 and bring bags back the next time for recycling in Woolworths "Redcycle" program - which Woolworths makes money out of.

Thank you for your insights.

On the Saturday when the points promotion started I gave my Woolworths Rewards card to the checkout person and pointed out I had brought 4 re-usable bags. I didn't know about the barcode and the fact that the bag offer was supposed to be listed on the receipt. A few days later I did another transaction with 3 bags and mentioned that the operator on the previous transaction hadn't scanned the barcode. The staff member entered 7 bags for the transaction so I was able to get my points that way.

I've had cloth bags for years (I used to live in the CBR region) and when I went through the self serve at Woolies I asked the attendant about points for using my own bags.

It was all too hard, she had to get the scan code from a staffed check-out. By the time she'd done that I was finished.

They don't seem too bothered about giving away the points. I had 3 bags today. The operated entered 10 bags. I told her of the mistake and she wasn't interested.

I used 5, but had brought more, at least 10, and 10 was the number credited.

Today I used one bag (and brought only one) and was credited for three bags. Only a tiny number of extra points but, if it continues, it'll add up over the next five months.

I was credited for two bags in Woolies Townsville last week and credited this morning for 4 bags at my usual Woolies on the Sunshine Coast.

I bought $38 worth of immediate use groceries on Saturday (my son wanted to stat collecting the mini collectibles), given we had just come back from overseas on Friday and almost nothing perishable remained in the fridge after I smelt it. I forgot to bring my own (cloth) bags but was given two of the Coles plastic ones by the check out girl who said they were giving them out for free. Now I have some for my ongoing (small) shops at my local Coles for my office, starting tomorrow. I think I'm going to like the points giveaway...
