Coles, Woolworths to Give points to those who bring their own shopping bags

Went past a Woolworths in the Sydney CBD today that had signage up about it - it's only temporary (until 3 October), minimum purchase is $5 and the 30 points will only be awarded once a day.

Found the comms this morning.
The document was detailed and covered a number of other things as well (change to bag offer for online etc).

Appears to be a roll back and replacement of the prior offer (which was 2 points per bag up to 30 bags/60 max points until end of year) and more closely matches what Coles had for Flybuys.
30 points per day on transactions over $5. The message window will pop up after scanning a rewards card and the shop scanning is complete (ie, once the register has been put into payment mode, but before showing card/cash/etc payment options).
No end date mentioned in the store comms in that section, but the point of sale posters linked in the doc say to pull them down EOB Oct 2.

The online bag fee can be refunded when returning bags from last shop (refund processed as "unwanted item") until Oct 2.
New online option to not get bags (and thus not get charged the bag fee) and BYO bags when collecting the pickup. Didn't appear to also be an option for delivery.

The $5 min is a pain. I was hoping to be able to get 30 points every day when I get lunch. :(

What lunch do you get for under $5?
Depends on what the bakery and deli have bothered to cook for the day. It's normally between $2 and $3.50 depending on what's available and what's on special.

What lunch do you get for under $5?
Easy - a single fresh bread roll plus a slice or two of meat from the deli ... easily under $3. Pull the roll in half and put meat between them, don't need butter with the fresh bread.

Have just received an email from Flybuys. It seems the bonus points for bags offer has been extended to 31 July.

"Collect 30 BONUS POINTS when you bring your own bags
Offer ends Tue 31 July 2018. Excludes Coles online. Offer available once per flybuys account, per day. See full terms and conditions*"
It seems the Coles 30 points offer has been extended beyond 31 July. I visited Coles stores on both 4th and 5th August and received 30 points each time.

I keep getting the 30 points per Coles shop as well, just waiting on yesterdays shop to credit. Also haven't seen an end date anywhere. Seems the initial hoo-ha about bags from the vocal minority is fading fast. I can handle October 2 as the end date - that'll have given me plenty of free points using the free bags they were giving me. Up to shop number 8 with one of them and it's going strong.

The date of August 29 was announced several weeks ago as the end date for free Coles bags. Of course, this is subject to change (again).

Stores have been told to remove the ‘Earn 30 Rewards Points’ point of sale ticketing in "preparation for a new Rewards offer after Oct 2".

For what?
what do you mean?

That was the only information in the store comms sent out this morning.
Take down the 30 rewards point for using own bag signage
points will still be earned
new offer after Oct 2

No details on what that offer might be (or why stores are being made to remove signage 2 weeks ahead).

They key words missing from your original post were ^^^^

Typo in latest Woolworths Dollars to Qantas Points conversion e-mail from QF? (I'd be quite happy with 300 Woolworths Dollars to bring my own bags - what's that, around 26,000 points?)

I can't wait to see Woolworths wiggle out of that monumental stuff up (no-one proof read it who had sufficient knowledge between the two?)

I added a similar note on Twitter in a current debate on it.

I received an email today in which Woolworths make a correction:

We made a mistake and told you that you could get 300 bonus Woolworths Dollars when you bring in your own shopping bags. You actually earn 30 Woolworths Points each time you reuse your own bags - read more here. We're sorry for any confusion.

Previous promo for Woolworths has now ended. No hint at something new for in store shoppers that I've seen so far, but online shoppers that select recyclable bags with their delivery can get a $1 refund if you hand them back.

Well, Oct 2 has come and gone with little fanfare - the free 30 points at Coles for bringing their own bags is now over.
