Comm Bank to issue AMEX... changes to QF/Velocity point earning

no change on netbank either :(

My netbank was updated, but not on the front page.

I had to go "View Accounts", "Account Information", select my Credit card account and on the next page it shows:

American Express ZZZZ ZZZZZZ ZZZZZ

I havn't received my card either yet, and the Amex is showing is N/A at the moment for balance etc.

The balance and available credit will remain at N/A as it doesn't have its own balance.

The fact that the card number is there is your indication that the card is on its way.

When you get it, you don't need to activate it. It is live in the envelope. Not the most secure way of mailing a card.

Already activated? Man that's bad behaviour from Commbank. 2 unsigned credit cards which are live and can access your credit limit... hopefully it gets to me ok !

Another weird question. The last 3 digits of my reference in Netbank is a very small number. Are there really only a few of these cards out there? Or am I just misunderstanding how the BIN numbers work (ie the first 6 numbers on the card). Perhaps cards linked to visas have a different bin than numbers linked to Mastercards. As a Plat Visa holder, I know it's a pretty rare card issued by CBA due to their preference for Mastercards.

I assumed that you are referring to the AMEX?

375416 (First 6 digits)- CBA issurance amex number (BIN)
the remaining numbers minus 1 are the the account and and card number
The last digit is the check digit if I remember correctly for Amex...

So your last 3 digits are small is because the system generated card number is small and the check digit is small... Coincident.

I hope that is not true.

I opted in for 2 cards just before I left overseas with the understanding that my current Visa will still be active until I activate the new cards that come in the mail. I'm away for 6 weeks from home so if they are pre-activated and my old card has been auto-cancelled I am going to be mighty p*ssed off.

Plus as Mal alluded to, that's ridiculous breach of security common sense.

According to an earlier post:
The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community - View Single Post - Comm Bank to issue AMEX... changes to QF/Velocity point earning

According to the letter both cards can be used from today and the old Visa will stop working 30 days from the date of the letter (24 Oct 2009)

So you may want to have a chat to the CBA about when your current card will be cancelled.

Yes the cards are already activated, just sign and use

The pin code came in the mail the same day as well, in a separate envelope, but it's very easy to pick that it's a "special envelope"

It says the old cards will be auto canceled after 30 days from date of the letter!

VERY POOR!

My new cards arrived today...slightly under a week after the Amex card number first appeared in NetBank.

Just in the nick of time for the overseas jaunt...

Number appeared in NetBank on Monday, card arrived this morning (Thursday). All good, however...

If the bonus 5000 (max) points are credited 'as a lump sum within 6 weeks' does that mean it will fall outside the QF 1:1 transfer window? In other words they'll give us the bonus points once they've dropped the ratio for CBA Award points to QFF points. It wouldn't surprise me...

Thats a good question, I might find out.

Commbank just confirmed- that if the transfer date is after Feb1- the new transfer rate will be applied.

Any transfer before Feb1 will have the 1:1.

They said points transfer every 30days. Think the 6 weeks is to cover themselves in the T&C's.

Everyone should have a recurring transfer date- so just work backwards from that. The last one before Feb1 will all be at 1:1

Well, received the card today...and made purchase of 13000... bonus achieved...I wonder if I will be getting them next statement date in Dec?

Wow 13000, is this a business purchase?

Yea... haha... been saving those bills for a month already  Don't we all love those amex accepted merchants.

I'm stilling working out the plan to maximise the points and targeting to reach the cap before Jan the 4th...

I missed out on a few thousand, kept holding out day by day, waiting for my amex card but couldn't wait any longer..

Do you plan to keep the card after feb? If so will you still have it going into your QFF account? even though they are halving the points into there?

I think most cards are doing the same thing. Im still not sure what i should do!..Might opt out of QFF and have it go into comm awards  ;)

No, coz I will most likely reach their first tier QFF cap by Feb...Will cancel if they don't offer me anything before my anniversary date.

I have full set of cards that earn me same or better points without capping...
