Comm Bank to issue AMEX... changes to QF/Velocity point earning

I'll quote off the website, hopefully that's the clearest ;)

"If you are an existing customer, request your new cards before 30 November and you’ll receive an additional point for every $1 you spend on your new Commonwealth Bank American Express® Card for the first two months."

"Maximum bonus points available during this promotion are capped at 5,000 (Platinum), 3,000 (Gold), 1,500 (Awards)."

OK- so the bonus point is applicable for the first 5000 points, not $5000

Because you're earing 4 points on this card until Feb, you'll reach 5000 points by spending just $1250 isnt that right?

For the first $5000 dollar you spend you'll get 4 points per dollar (3 points + Bonus 1) on the plat Amex.
There after it is 3 points per dollar.

You get a bonus 5000 points with the first $5000.

If that doesn't work, someone else better help me out here! :)

So- for the first $5000 you spend on the card, you get 25,000 QF points
(4 points per dollar = 20,000 then a bonus 5000)

???

Sounds pretty generous...

My understanding is for the first $5000 you spend on the card you get (3 + 1 bonus point) per dollar = 20,000 points provided you spend it within the first 2 months.

OK- have just gotten off the phone with Commbank- and can confirm this is correct.

So, if you spend 5K, you get 20,000 QF points.

I dont think there's any 5000 bonus point system- the 5000 points are the limit for the bonus point per $1 spent.

In saying that- the yearly points cap for this Amex is only 150,000. Absolute s**t.

In theory- if you throw 50K at this card before Feb, you'll reach the limit already.

After that, you've got an extra 100,000 points cap on the connected visa or mastercard, but the QF points conversion on those cards arent that good anyway.

Will definately rack up the maximum 150,000 points for 50K spend before Feb and then cancel the card probably and go back to the AMEX Ultimate.

3 Qantas points per $1 until the 1st of Feb
1 Bonus Qantas point per $1 until you reach 5,000 bonus points.

Therefore if you spend
$5000 you get 20,000 Qantas points
$10000 you get 35,000 Qantas points

Can someone (who has received the card already) post any special features for the amex?

 Apart from the points...

Random question, but does anyone know whether the CBA Amex cards are/will be PIN-capable? I ask as Westpac Amex cards share the same PIN as the linked MasterCard or Visa, but ANZ Amex cards cannot be assigned a PIN. :)

I think they can. Remember slightly the letter indicating a pin number being sent out separately.

Can someone please post the first 8 digit of the amex card?? I want to see if the premium privilege site is offering the same thing as entre....

This is perfectly safe to do. Just in case people don't realise, the first 8 digits of the Amex CBA card are the same for all Amex CBA cards.

Normally you could get the first 6 digits (the BIN number) from the below site, but it hasn't been updated recently enough for the CBA Amex card:

Is the 150k cap from the issue of the new card, or is previous expenditure included?

I only got the CBA m/c earlier this year for additional non-Amex spend, when my two Citibank (visa & m/c) cards were about to reach their caps. It did include a bonus of 20K points. I've probably spent 40-50k on it this year.

Got my card today and have been updating various merchants.

Had problems with Paypal and Playstation 3, both of whom accept Amex, but reject my card.

Have others had success adding their Amex to these 2 merchants?

Evan :->

Mine got rejected by PayPal.

I called up commbank- and the reason was "The AMEX computer system on Commbank doesnt go active until Monday" ie: I got it early.

But has anyone actually purchased anything else on the card?
