Means that accommodation might be a premium. Or expensive. Or both.

Time to wheel out points, perhaps.

Yeah, hotel rates aren't that great. At the moment I've booked into the HI Flinders St using points (25K), but will keep looking around.

Note the Oz Open tennis woman's final is that evening with the men's singles final the next day.

I was going to confirm earlier today but my time was not my own.

Now I am confirmed for the flight.

Yes I know - i will be working there!!

I was going to give this a miss, but considering it is trippin_the_rift's birthday, I figured I better come along.

Flights are booked, OMG o'clock out of Brisbane on Saturday, and QF620 back on Sunday (2pm departure). I even booked and payed for JQ35 at full price  not tempting fate, but you can all thank me when Tiger goes and has a $40 sale next week :p

Now if one of you kind Melbournites would be so kind as to offer me a spot on your floor/lounge/back verandah for the night it would be greatly appreciated (hotel rates are more expensive than the 3 flights I've got booked for the weekend!)

My place is available (provided i don't have to move on the 17th!) - although it is about 20 mins from the city.

Hmm, this looks like an event I wouldn't want to miss. Colour me in interested, I'll sort out the details when I'm back in Australia. Accommodation sounds quite expensive at the moment, will have to work out something there. I like the idea anat0l has of taking QF8 down, saves a lot of hassle on the day.

If it's trippin_the_rift's birthday will JQ35 be operated by John Travolta and his 707?

With that combination would it be possible to stay airside and do a transit at Sydney?
Unlikely ... no issue with going through transit security; the problem is in checking in airside.

Might be worth a try in any case - worst that can happen is having to head landside.

Yes - I believe on your arrival flight you head to 'International Connections', be re-screened and then you head airside and can go straight to the F Lounge.

Provided you have a BP for JQ35.

As others have pointed out, getting a JQ35 BP is the trick / problem. Same issue others have without the transit (otherwise, many of us don't have to wait 3 hours before departure to put up with the check-in lines).

JQ don't have airside check-in (LCC styles), and QF are dubious at best at this (JQ stuff, that is, not airside check-in). Having no bags to check obviously will help (as I intend to do).

Whilst the possibility of airside transit came to mind, I just thought it'd be a more novel way of getting down to SYD. (Plus, who could argue with a 744 Skybed I seat from BNE to SYD?) Just hope QF8 isn't inordinately delayed (as it can be notorious for)...

According to Jetstar's connection page

"check-in for multiple flights may be available when booked on one itinerary and where sufficient connection time is allowed. These connections will only be offered for selected airports and are only available for the following connections: [...] Jetstar International to and from Qantas International"

So as long as QF8 and JQ35 are booked on the same itinerary. And assuming Brisbane is a 'selected airport' it seems possible to check in for JQ35 flight at Brisbane international. But it is a bit unusual so who knows what the staff on the day will let you do.

An international transit was tried by SAMIAM with no luck in August.

It also says similar for a QF domestic to JQ international connection on the same itinerary. However, the kind person checking me in for the QFd flight really wanted to tear up the JQ BP.

Only managed to avoid that by offering sexual favours. "please no! Take both BPs and go!" :D

Ive run into an issue before when I did BNE-SYD, SYD-MEL on QF flights. Basically Customs don't know how to handle two D stickers from one port.

QF8 is a nice way to head down, but I do have some reservations about using it. The easiest thing would be to "arrive", then flick straight back into immigration and "depart".

One Customs guy did comment once that just one of the BPs need to be stamped ... but I don't really trust that variability.

I notice BNE-SYD QF8 connecting to SYD-MEL on JQ35 on the QF booking page, I might book them together and see if Qantas actually issue me both boarding passes in Brisbane as I purchased them together.

Interestingly, I can do the same with an overnight flight from Perth into Sydney arriving 6am and then on JQ35, which would mean in excess of six hours in the FLounge. Surely QF would issue both boarding passes in Perth given they're on the one PNR.

As per my previous post. I have had a QF flight (from ADL) and JQ35 on the same PNR. Both BPs printed. But The check in agent wanted to not give the JQ BP to me and indicated that they had specific instructions to not provide a BP for JQ. I asked nicely and they didn't tear up the BP. So while it is possible, there is a risk the check in person will want to destroy the JQ BP and won't be nice.

But the page I linked to only lists QFi to/from JQi as the only valid combinations for multiple checkin/luggage inlining. Specially Qantas domestic is missing. Perhaps you are referring to some other page. If they are following the policy as it is on that page to the letter then QF domestic check in staff shouldn't check in JQ flights. While Qantas international staff issuing JQi BPs would fit within that policy.
