But the page I linked to only lists QFi to/from JQi as the only valid combinations for multiple checkin/luggage inlining. Specially Qantas domestic is missing. Perhaps you are referring to some other page. If they are following the policy as it is on that page to the letter then QF domestic check in staff shouldn't check in JQ flights. While Qantas international staff issuing JQi BPs would fit within that policy.

No big deal about luggage interlining - I won't have any (checked, that is).

My two flights - QF8 and JQ35 - are on the same PNR, booked through Qantas website.

Whilst there is always a default plan if this doesn't work, if it does, well that's nice, and that is that. Of course, procuring a D sticker from someone might be nice to help facilitate this.

Your right. I was referring to the qantas check in eligibility table, which says QFd to JQi is acceptable. I'm on the phone and not doing links but the thread on getting an early JQ BP has all the details.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

All going according to the rules you'll get both BPs in BNE, get both D stickers at the same time.

I'm hoping there is too!
We are staying the night at the airport Holiday Inn and flying to NZ the next afternoon.
So, two visits to the F lounges :D

Has anybody been keeping track of names/numbers?

Is there anything planned for post-arrival of JQ35?

I am planning on Flying back to BNE on Saturday night...

Will have some J lounge time in Melb...

I can guest 2 in...

I even booked and payed for JQ35 at full price  not tempting fate, but you can all thank me when Tiger goes and has a $40 sale next week :p

Thanks awilcockson :p

I have been monitoring Tiger's fares all month and today they dropped to $39.95 so I did a Jetstar price match!!! Jetstar is now $89 but that may drop on the Boxing Day sale.
What a great deal! (Sorry to rub it in!)

See you all in the Flounge on the 28th...

I like the idea anat0l has of taking QF8 down, saves a lot of hassle on the day.

According to Jetstar's connection page

"check-in for multiple flights may be available when booked on one itinerary and where sufficient connection time is allowed. These connections will only be offered for selected airports and are only available for the following connections: [...] Jetstar International to and from Qantas International"

So as long as QF8 and JQ35 are booked on the same itinerary. And assuming Brisbane is a 'selected airport' it seems possible to check in for JQ35 flight at Brisbane international. But it is a bit unusual so who knows what the staff on the day will let you do.

It also says similar for a QF domestic to JQ international connection on the same itinerary. However, the kind person checking me in for the QFd flight really wanted to tear up the JQ BP.

Only managed to avoid that by offering sexual favours. "please no! Take both BPs and go!" :D

That's the issue: the system will issue both boarding passes eg QF515/JQ35 or QF8/JQ35 as long as the link isn't down to JQ system however some ground staff fear the JQ Grim Reaper will jump out from behind a pillar somewhere if they are seen to hand out a QF boarding pass with a JQ flight on it. If the JQ link is down you are generally still checked in so all that needs to be done is ask a JQ checkin person if they would mind doing a reprint of your boarding pass as you're already checked in.

Ive run into an issue before when I did BNE-SYD, SYD-MEL on QF flights. Basically Customs don't know how to handle two D stickers from one port.

QF8 is a nice way to head down, but I do have some reservations about using it. The easiest thing would be to "arrive", then flick straight back into immigration and "depart".

One Customs guy did comment once that just one of the BPs need to be stamped ... but I don't really trust that variability.

In the case where you are travelling on two international flights domestically eg QF8 connecting to JQ35 it's only the second boarding pass that requires the "D" sticker ie the flight you will be arriving into MEL (in this case) on & going through Customs as a domestic pax. QF8 would not need a "D" sticker providing you were remaining airside in SYD so you would of course already need to be in possession of the JQ boarding pass so you didn't need to go landside.

I notice BNE-SYD QF8 connecting to SYD-MEL on JQ35 on the QF booking page, I might book them together and see if Qantas actually issue me both boarding passes in Brisbane as I purchased them together.

You would be checking in at BNE Int terminal by QF who as it happens do the ground handling for JQ Intl flights Trans-Tasman. If your flights on QF8/JQ35 are on the one booking QF should be able to issue both boarding passes from Altea as the JQ flight is immediately after a QF one so no different to doing eg BNE QF SYD JQ HNL checkin.

If the system doesn't generate the JQ boarding pass you could maybe ask the supervisor if they are able to reprint your boarding pass from the JQ system as they would have a JQ sign on for when they do checkin the JQ flights to NZ so are able to physically sign in to the JQ Navitaire checkin system. Tell them you need it for SYD as you have to remain airside in SYD so won't be able to go landside to JQ checkin in SYD. :(

Interestingly, I can do the same with an overnight flight from Perth into Sydney arriving 6am and then on JQ35, which would mean in excess of six hours in the FLounge. Surely QF would issue both boarding passes in Perth given they're on the one PNR.

You'd hope so however in case they don't, after finishing with QF checkin head over the JQ domestic checkin counters which should be staffed at that hour & say "hi there, I'm already checked in for a connecting flight on JQ35 but I just need a reprint of my boarding pass". That lets them off the hook from taking responsibility for doing the actual checkin which for some staff is akin to violating one of the ten commandments.

Price match time ...

FWIW, Tigers SYD-MEL fares on the 28th are currently ALL $49.95;

JQ are looking for $89 for the 2pm flight.

Tiger Airways

(Note that 'sale' indicated from May 1, but Jan 28th is available at that price ... sale end's Jan 4)

It was $39.95 last week though :D and because I procrastinated those fares then went up to $49.95.

Anyway I'm a confirmed starter for the F Lounge run! I thought about heading to the Women's Finals but wimps they are ;) who only play the best of three sets - yet for the same amount of $$$ as the men's - decided against getting tickets as I don't want to spend close to $300.00 for a potentially 40 minute match. If it was the men's finals, easily a no-brainer! Best of 5, usually closer to two hours of game time.

Has anyone been able to get a through fare BNE/MEL via SYD on a JASA that incorporates JQ35 in J on the SYD/MEL sector?

I can do QF8 & QF439 in J for 32,000 points + $126.96 but despite JQ35 having J, the Business Class column next to JQ35 says N/A however there are seats because I've checked the JQ site. If I book QF8 in J then JQ35 in whY (starter) it's 24,000 points + $113.34.

I might be better off booking the QF439 SYD/MEL then calling up res to see if I can change it to JQ35?

I was doing some testing for that, could only get "Starter" or "Max" fares for the segment:
V0.2 now does xASA's.

Pop-up appears with a summary and now, inserts the fare bucket code beside each flight under "Fare Type".

Those who have the URL already can reload the script; others who would like to try it can PM me for more information.

I have booked QF008 and the JQ035 express and staying at the Holiday Inn Airport, $207.00 for 2 Queen Beds wasn't too bad a deal, returning 1:00pm Sunday afternoon.

2 orange D Stickers would be nice but not the end of the world, and JQ035 is non earning points.

For January I have flights on QF008, QF009 and QF010.

Something tells me that QF mustn't sell J on domestic legs of JQi flights as in the Business column the availability says "N/A" not "no seats". It's probably just an oversight because they assume all JQ flights within Oz only have whY.

It's not because it's sold out because I rang JQ res & they said there were no seats sold at all in J - ie fare buckets of "J" & "JF" the latter code used for Business Max.

Ahhh - Lawlass is already self-nominating 1B :)

I may have whispered this into someones ear back in November 2011, but have been away through December 2011. My flights though are booked and I shall need guesting, but I think that’s covered…

Saturday
QF501
JQ35

Sunday
QF618 - this flight should make me a Platinum too!

Thanks awilcockson :p

Good job, I managed to get mine for $55.76!!

Subtlly not all JASA's are alike

Talk about decisions, decisions when it comes to booking a humble JASA BNE via SYD to MEL. The mission which I chose to accept was to book an ASA on QF8 connecting to JQ35 for an inaugural Flounge experience.

Had to use the multi-city tool as the above options didn't come up automatically when looking one way BNE to MEL. Some of the options were as follows:

a) QF8 BNE/SYD in Y (?) Red E Deal then JQ35 why (M) starter fare for 16,000 points plus $97.82 cash

b) QF8 BNE/SYD in J (U) then JQ35 in whY (M) Starter fare for 24,000 points plus $113.34 cash

c) QF8 BNE/SYD in J (U) then JQ35 in whY (?) Max fare for 48,000 points plus $714.68 cash!!!

d) QF 8 BNE/SYD in J (U) one one ticket for 16,000 points plus $500.39!!! Was going to buy a JQ ticket SYD/MEL for $49.95 to price match with TT however clearly no point as much cheaper to do JASA BNE/SYD/MEL on one ticket

e) QF8 BNE/SYD in J (U) then QF439 in J (U) for 32,000 points plus $126.96 cash*

* The only was I see being able to travel J on the domestic leg of a JQi flight ie JQ35 SYD/MEL is to initially book BNE/SYD/MEL all on QF eg
QF8 BNE/SYD in J (U) then QF439 SYD/MEL in J (U) then call up QF & ask them to cancel QF439 & rebook JQ35 instead.

I don't know whether this option would work & if QF were prepared to book it they would need to book the JQ flight in "JF" fare bucket class which is for Business Max in order for the points to post & not "J" which in Business Starter where you get zip. This option seemed to messy which is why I chose option b).

Looks like there might be a couple of us "enjoying" Skybeds (I or II) for just over 60 minutes to start the day.

Even better if the international transfer at SYD works a treat.
