Velocity points are useless to me. I think after about 6 years I have ~16,000 Velocity points and my father ~11,000 Velocity. Just enough to go nowhere....

Someone needs to be doing some more reading, 12K is enough for a return BNE-SYD in PE with a little cash, not that you fly BNE-SYD much ;)
As posted, a BNE/SYD in Premium can cost for 13,300 velocity points ($0) and 6,650 points and $46.03.

Yes I have read about that deal but sorry to say but I see absolutely no value in wasting 12,000 points on a BNE-SYD flight. And yes I was in premium economy the other day on the SYD-BNE flight in one of the new 737s.

Is there any way of going SYD-HKG for 54,000 points in premium economy, or SYD-BKK for ~46,000 return in economy or even a RTW award for ~140,000 points?

Hardly just enough to go nowhere as you claimed though, which was my point, you obviously left out the "suits me" part. And you never know when a flight might be needed, after all it's bookable up until a few hours before departure, handy for life's little emergencies that yield management love.

I think you know exactly what I meant and you are just trying to be cheeky.

If I have earned ~16,000 Velocity points in ~6 years which means that I have spent ~$3,200 to earn those points and then those points are good for a SYD-BNE award in premium economy which to me is not worth much more than a $75 economy flight.

So which ever way I look at it I have earned just enough to go nowhere....

No, not at all, a new member may read your post and think that 12000 points will get you nowhere with DJ, which as pointed out is not correct, 6900 points will get you anywhere in Australia that DJ fly to at short notice with a cash co payment of not more than one or two hundred max, including transcon.

For a cost of 3200 I can get about 88000 points on QF as a WP with two tickets to Europe... These 88000 is enough for a YASA return to Asia with some spare miles in the bank.. I am still trying to work out which one is best for me...

And you are being cheeky too ... where do you get the $75 flight these days? Tiger?

Aside from that, you are completely ignoring my post #121 ... pretending it does not exist I guess as it does not suit whatever point you are endeavouring to make ...

Good point. And with that spend on QF even on cheap $100 red e-deals SYD-MEL/BNE one would have earned 32,000 QFF points which is enough for a one-way to Asia.

Sorry my mistake. Current VA sale has SYD-BNE at $79.

I was not ignoring your post.

I am obviously not doing a good job of making my point. I have spent ~$3,200 with an airline and I have enough miles for a one-way SYD-BNE in premium economy.

Maybe not with this Complimentary Membership via Velocity:

(VELOCITY FREQUENT FLYER COMPLIMENTARY ELITE MEMBERSHIP AND COMPLIMENTARY MEMBERSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS)

Going by these T&C's, if there are effective controls in place, one won't be able to change the earning preference away from Velocity.
Reading the terms and conditions again it appears that any stays at Hilton during the complimentary membership will not count as HH stays but rather credit to Velocity only?

Am I reading this right? I really cannot see how HH Diamond benefits will outweigh the loss of HH poins and/or preferred airline miles. Has anyone had any hotel stays with their new complimentary membership? Simongr?

So no double dipping? What if you preference is HH points + HH bonus points?

How does one go about sending a request to cancel complimentary elite membership? But also I want to make sure that my 2 upcoming Hilton stays credit to Hilton and Diamond Club. Would the hotel staff be able to assist? I really do not want to chase things up after it has gone all wrong.

Serves me right for not reading the sneaky fine print.

You'll be fine! With HHonors, stay/night credits towards status/promotions are a separate issue to "Double Dipping" and the earning of HHonors Points and/or airline miles.

Firstly you need to stay to be "Qualifying" - So book it on a Hilton family web site. That way you are in line for stay/night credits and HHonors "Double Dipping". These stays and nights count towards status.

Secondly, you will get "base" HHonors points at 10 per US$1.

Thirdly, as a Diamond, you will get bonus HHonors points at 5 per US$1.

Finally comes "My Way" "double Dipping". Let's assume you are forced to choose DJ as your crediting airline.

DJ is not participating in "HHonors Points and Variable Miles", only "HHonors Points and Fixed Miles" where you'd get 1000 velocity points per stay.

Who's to say you can't select "HHonors Points and HHonors Points" and credit to no airline.

I imagine that the earning style will be set to Hhonors points + Velocity Miles.
OK. I feel a little better now.

From reading the terms and conditions I was under the impression that the stay will be treated as if you just had your Velocity number in the booking and no HH number. So would earn Velocity points only.

Ok, here's a question. Once complimentary memberships are used, they are used. What if you take the complimentary Gold membership with a hotel as a Gold Velocity member and then down the track a little bit you become a Velocity Platinum member. Do you get offered the hotel membership again at the Platinum or equivalent level, which Platiunum Velocity members are entitled too ? Or do you stay on Gold because you have already used the offer as a Gold and it is now used up ?

Will likely never affect me but I thought an interesting question none-the-less.

i am very grateful VFF is offering these incentives

but one thing really annoys me about the whole thing is,

train your stuff!

called up today, had 3 different operators, none of them spoke even basic english, none of them knew what was going on.

i am used to dealing with QFF australian based operators, some of them may be rude but at least i can understand them and get things done...

VFF, this is not a good look

Yes, a common problem encountered with the DJ/Velocity O/S call centres, but DJ are apparently listening and from reports here on AFF, it would appear they intend to move their call centres back on-shore. Of course the gold and platinums (and I think silver as well) already has a local call centre.

I am gold but still got put through to overseas call center....

But any way, fingers crossed on these comp memberships to come through for car rental and hotel

The welcome pack for the secure sentinel membership arrived on Monday after recieving a letter from them last week.

Turnaround time was about 2 weeks...

Sent from my GT-I9000 using AustFreqFly App

I applied on 21/09/11 for Hilton, Europcar and Secure Sentinel.

Only had my status updated with Hilton. Did not even get an email from Europcar or Secure Sentinel, and it has been at least 2 weeks now.
