I'd like to publicly thank 747800intercon for bringing this to our attention some 3 months ago. AFF is all about sharing information for the betterment of all our members and readers - and thats exactly what 747800intercon did.

Thanks again 747800intercon and everyone else who contributed to this valuable discussion.

Some of the vitriol earlier in this thread to the OP was quite unbelievable. Maybe those people guilty will have the decency to apologise?

Yep

The "marginal" ASAs were the attraction to me with QFF. Other programs with possibly better award availability and flights from Adelaide may beckon.
Now what to do with my newly re-minted WP and the family's seven figure QFF points?

Its the worst makeover of a major web site I've ever seen, before it was clean and simple to navigate and what is with the giant size type?.

Me too just gone WP... now I'm so dam annoyed.

+1 on the giant font size... such a childish looking site now and requires sooooo much scrolling down the page when reviewing flight options...

The large icons/type is to cater further for the tablet/smartphone world.

I have my own issues-can't find the booking class as easily as before and my script no longer works ...:-|

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Well to be fair, I asked AJ on 2/4 and he said they were not being removed - this is correct.

"Marginal" ASA's are under review, not gone - who knows what that review will produce. Whether the review was underway at that point is anybody's guess.

Well, we had beem told that a new site was on the way ar that point, given it would have been the reason for your question. The functionality of the new engine should give you an indication of their thinking at the time.

Ok there was a thread started about the new booking engine that was then locked and I assumed combined with this thread (hard to tell from the phone app)

I think we need a thread on the booking engine. For example this: WTF! 3 levels of JQ starter but no JQ Max anymore

Ok how do I find new ASAs. Seems to be only offering points plus pay. Which are traditionally more expensive that ASA.

Also JohnK may not be happy. Super saver to/from SIN says 1 stopover allowed in each direct but not permitted in Australia.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

umm, you dont want to look at the ASAs :P, its way too much now. I just booked normal then clicked the points tab.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Lol. Everyone is going back to Virgin now. Remember their website is ****e as well.
Maybe those that know best can start their own airline and do it how they consider it should be done

Airlines, regardless of their name, all have one purpose, to make a profit, without it they dont exist. I understand those who are mighty pissed off at these changes, and yes it does seem like a kick in the knackers, however the alternative is no different, we have to just suck it up, and they know it

Some other food for thought, all the loopholes and good value flights are posted on this and many other public pages, which the airlines themselves participate in. The good value fares are presented to them on a platter to change to suit better profit margins

All the talk of embargos and ethics could indeed be turned around on the airlines in cases like this, they acquired info here and used it to take away benefits. You guys did the work, shared the info and they took it away without even a thanks

Wolves in sheeps clothing comes to mind

There appears to be little point collecting QF points. Even classic awards seem to have jumped in cost. Edit: for international. Domestic classic is lower.

Personally, I think it would be unnatural to not be po'ed at being kicked in the knackers.

Can anyone get the website to work in Chrome? The search function doesn't display properly for me...

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

How would booking ASAs through calling up work anyway ?
Would they be willing to try dozens of date/destination combinations and then after all that waive the fee ?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

weird, i have to actually click on the swiss flag look a like icon to get points plus pay. I only have to click on the view on points tab to get pure points.

Actually let me go all the way and see, could be my mistake.

Ok, so i can go all the way to paying this ticket with purely points and gain QF and SC for it.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

So the current process is scour the website for ASA at classic rates and book.

The new process will be to scour the website for classic awards and then call to book as an ASA.

This is the sky falling?

With any luck there will be stricter tiered access to the ASA's managed by the call centre giving WP's more avails :)

(Sorry SG and below, very selfish I know!)

Thank you to the OP for providing further information. Unfortunately though some of the people who frequent AFF these days do not deserve any useful information. I hope you stick around.

So what is the issue? A few people on AFF will be slightly inconvenienced and have to spend a few extra dollars to get status? Big deal?

In the past 6-7 years I have seen "enhancements" that have caused a lot more damage than this "enhancement" if it ends up being as bad as some people think.

You would think the sky was falling. Now if a Oneworld award increased to 160,000 QFF points that would be a big deal.

Allow me to translate:

- Changes affecting JohnK = Big deal.
- Changes not affecting JohnK = Storm in a tea cup.

Must check out the new and improved CX site and reward offerings to compare with QF.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

On the phone tpo QF now Last Night Mel-SYD-Alice was 48000 points and $339.00 as a JASA Today it is 216000 points and $1330.00 WTF

This is not what I was told yesterday by Qantas Staff.

If this is the way that ASA is going to be then Virgin here I come atleast we can pool status credits and points making maintaining Status easier.

There has been too many changes to the QFF programme and taxes are excessive on redemptions but this is the LAST STRAW for me

Perhaps we should start a thread with a vote to see how many are reviewing loyalty to QF and considering changes.

NOT HAPPY QANTAS

Speak for yourself son.
There are many alternatives to those who mainly do overseas travel, like myself. And the vast majority of those (i.e., airlines/alliances in terms of their FF program) are much better than QF. Especially after this change.

Speak for yourself son.

Time will tell but i tend to agree with MarkD, majority (> 50%) will still stick with Qantas is my guess.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Last night I could still find some JASAs SYD-LAX return for under 350k points (return) in May/June 2014. Points plus pay for those flights worked out at 210k points (my current balance) and $1211.00. Today no flights under 411k points one way and points plus pay is now 210k points and $5929 co payment. Clearly my understanding of the word "enhancement" and Qantas' differ significantly.
