You have to sorta hope that whatever limited improvement they thought they would get by this 'enhancement' is worth all the cough they are causing everyone and getting a decent serve back of... Unless there are bigger changes afoot, which might justify p!ssing a lot of people off...

They aren't though, most Frequent Flyers with QF don't know the difference between the two programs and don't chase status.

That is not an ASA.

Given I am redeeming points for an award, and there are two types of award flights, Classic or ASA...... methinks its an ASA:rolleyes:

well "View in points" is now an ASA according to the Qantas email received

To view these fares as an Any Seat Award,˜ simply select 'View in Points'. If you wish to book a Classic Award*, then simply enter your flight details and select the 'Show Classic Awards only' checkbox before searching.

Not much use given the extremely cut down list of destinations. Happy to know I can fly to SIT, but how about ADL?

Yes they can be - see my post #749 - just not out of the U/P/Z fare buckets.

Sorry but if you are referring to something like the screen shot from Markis10 - that is not an ASA. Read the terms and conditions - points plus pay is not an ASA.

Or it is points plus pay which is a separately defined award option.

You really have nothing to be  about.

As a Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer (for the last 3 years, nothing that special), I will be switching all my travel to other carriers if the ASAs at classic availability is diminished in 3 months.

All Qantas have to do now (in order to keep our business and get all their customers back that they lost to VA/others), would be to provide points and SCs for Classic Awards. This would be awesome if this is the case, and would definitely breathe life into the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. (or provide it as an option like the Max Bundles on JQ)

Given that ASAs have only been around for a couple of years what were you booking a few years ago?

FWIW they were introduced Jul 1 2008 and at that stage did not earn points/sc's!

given the minimum points to use is down to 5000, rather than an amount the same (or thereabouts) of the equivalent classic level when 'winding back the slider', you'd have to say its really a 'points + pay' than an ASA, other than in name

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Thanks for the clarification - it isn't something I have used much so was not 100% sure.

People have been too harsh on Red Roo. He/she/them/they have limitations on information that can be disclosed. I hope people don't forget that RR has been generous to this community.

FWIW I strongly dislike these changes

Slighty off topic..........Conspiracy theory.....the government website ato.gov.au changed overnight also......wonder if they changed any terms and conditions on us

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

so, for those of us still scratching our heads about the latest changes, can someone please clarify (or start a new thread which can become a sticky) how this works now.

My understanding is that the old ASA no longer exists on the website. It is possible to use a combination of points plus pay, but this is not the same as an ASA [how not the same?]

You have to ring the service centre to book an ASA. Does this mean that you have to spend time on the phone with them trying to work out a creative routing, b/c the web site will not generate it any more?

cheers

Might have something to do with the change of government tonight..

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Correct, if the classic award is available, you can get that at the ASA rate and original cash fee, but it has to be done through reservations. ASAs are available, but the ones at X, U, W, P fare class aint.

ATM, when I did a dummy booking selecting points (not cash) and went through to the next few pages, I could shift the slider to the left for less points.

Am I correct in saying that this P+P (Points + Pay) is inferior to what I will get if I ring QF up for a ASA seat for the same flight - assuming there are Classic seats on same ?

Thanks

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I don't know Markis 10 but I did just read this thread and used all my points last night on a last minute JASA under DSC offer, so I don't think having inside information would have made any difference, unless it would have made me NOT do that .
However wonder whether there was any point rushing in (it would have been more convenient making the same trip later) as I suspect for me achieving status ever again without DSC would be unlikely, and the accumulating points game looking increasingly pointless.
