re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

You have to ring the service centre to book an ASA. Does this mean that you have to spend time on the phone with them trying to work out a creative routing, b/c the web site will not generate it any more?

cheers

... in which case the option to call should have been included in QF's email.

Otherwise, the email is merely informing you of a slightly different means to use the existing Pay/Pay+Points options but mixing in ASA language ... clear as a foggy, grey dawn!!

Regards,

BD

They will all go, due to that search engine no longer in use.

So where is the correct search engine? I've cleared cookies and cache.

OK, I have the email now and have followed the link. Golly gosh, I see what you mean about all that WHITE and I feel like I am reading a Grade 1 Primer.

What an absolute Fluster cough this is.

Nothing seems to work properly

A lack of information about the changes

No Clarity as to wether you are getting points plus pay or a Genuine ASA

Redemption costs escelated as far as cash components goes as advised by several people

JASA available at classic levels BUT must be booked via the phone WTF !!!!! Why not give the options as per the ASA

It seems to me that JASA at the lower rates are definitely GONE or GOING very quickly

What a complete and utter shambles

Am I correct in saying that this P+P (Points + Pay) is inferior to what I will get if I ring QF up for a ASA seat for the same flight - assuming there are Classic seats on same ?

Thanks

Yes. If you want the ASA for the same point cost as the Classic award (plus whatever the dollar cost is) - you need to book this via the call centre.

Funnily enough, not listed here:

Frequent Flyer - Award Bookings - Award Types

Perhaps you missed this:

"All bookings made using Points Plus Pay are treated as an Any Seat Awards and Any Seat Award fare conditions will apply"

Points Plus Pay | Qantas

Well if we are going to hold up descriptive pages on the website as superceding the the T&Cs then why not the bit on your first link that says classic awards are available as ASAs?

Personally, I stick to the terms and conditions which define an ASA. The booking page that you provide as an example does not describe those bookings as ASA. Hence they are not ASA with in the conditions of the QFF program.

...... That, I believe, was the only item on their Agenda.

Then shouldn't that be agendum?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

As a Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer (for the last 3 years, nothing that special), I will be switching all my travel to other carriers if the ASAs at classic availability is diminished in 3 months.

All Qantas have to do now (in order to keep our business and get all their customers back that they lost to VA/others), would be to provide points and SCs for Classic Awards. This would be awesome if this is the case, and would definitely breathe life into the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. (or provide it as an option like the Max Bundles on JQ)
Then you'll very quickly end up with a UA/AA type situation where it's *very* elite-heavy, and your benefits are even further diluted.

(ignoring the new UA minimum spend requirements to obtain/retain 1K as of 2014) Try flying on a UA flight; the number of 1K members is simply astounding. This is compounded by the CO merger, but it makes my *A Gold pretty much useless in terms of priority anything (except security). 1K/GS have their own queues at airports.

Let's hope QF don't go down the 'minimum spend' requirement like UA and DL are (and, i'm willing to put a bet on AA doing similarly when they emerge from the US merger).

Airlines want high value elites, not cheap ones :)

Points + Pay is basically ASA

I am now truly confused.

Many posters here advise that to get ASA at the Classic point rate, you have to call QF.

True, it still has a $$ component so it could still be described as P +P.

But, AFFers we tend to differentiate between those two terms: P+P vs ASA with ASA being more yield-friendly.

Are you saying that online P+P would be more or less the same as the call-centre ASA - in terms of points and $$ ? [once you have shifted the slider to the extreme left]

no - as the online P+P/ASA is not starting from the classic award bucket,so once you sliiide, the $$$ remains much higher than the call centre ASA (assuming classic availability)

edit:fat finger typo

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

People have been too harsh on Red Roo. He/she/them/they have limitations on information that can be disclosed. I hope people don't forget that RR has been generous to this community.

FWIW I strongly dislike these changes

Really? Red Roo is a nom de guerre for the Qantas rep here. Its Qantas, not a marsupial, or a particular person. Budgeted for by QF as part of its 'marketing' or 'customer outreach' or whatever. I'm grateful for that.

He/she/it has said that they were in on the changes (as you would expect). As the company rep here I would have expected them to front up and help explain - just has they have done before. You can see the hopeless confusion here!!

But no. Cut and run. Not willing to defend the indefensible, IMUO.

As for limitations on information that can be disclosed; I assume that that doesn't include how the QF web site works, how various awards can be gained. I hope that that sort of thing is OK for a Qantas rep to talk about?

Golly. Apparently not.

Is that really a huge loss??? ;)

So Qantas is dividing and conquering then.....

But am pleased to say Adelaide is now rightfully back.. It just seems their website likes two search engines to be active.

You can search for a flight to Wick, just not London (actually LCY is there, but no LHR), EDI, GLA, ABZ etc.

This is from following the link to award bookings in the 'I want to' dropdown.

Nonsense. That's like saying a barista was generous in making a cup of coffee for you.

No, it's his job to make you that coffee, just like it is the job of the Red Roo team (I believe RR is not just one person) as Qantas "social media team" to be on AFF, Twitter, Facebook and whatever else.

This isn't some volunteer job and Qantas is not some generous sponsor of the hard-up AFF charitable foundation. Red Roo is a salaried position as a company rep and AFF is part of Red Roo's remit. Part of Red Roo's job.

So get over the idea that we should be grateful for Qantas or Red Roo doing anything here, because they are just doing their job.

I think it seems only neighbourly of Qantas in Virgin's time of screwing the pooch with their own system/website upgrade text book cough* up, to respond in kind with this load of cough... Here here, QF... :)

JB will probably be sending a card any day now... :)
